I was gonna go right past this match-3 just like everyone else, but then I noticed this screen on the right of the match-3 that I suspected would interact with the matching game... and it does
Matches made in the left window affects the adventure screen on the right via a four-action/direction interface. You'll first set sail moving your boat forward via "any" match, you'll then you'll engage in various settings ranging from Pirate Ship cannon warfare, to swordplay, dungeon exploration and haggling for more crew members at the tavern.
Each of the four colums will correspond to an action depending on the adventure context screen on the right. In a dungeon, for instance, matching green pieces will cause your character to walk to the right, Silver to the left, etc. In a cannon battle, you'll have to load your cannon by clicking on cannonballs, and fire the cannon in the desired direction.
You can imagine how this could get problematic when you have no matches available to carry out the actions you'd like to take, but fear not, you can reset the match-board at any time taking a points penalty.
You'll score bonus points if you've picked up treasure chests and manage to bring a key all the way down to the bottom of the playfield, but the matches are TOUGH, and only seasoned players [i.e. not me] will be able to frequently open the said chests.
Since this is an older game, there's no save-as-you-go. You can continue from the last port/tavern, but exiting the game means forefitting the adventure as a whole.
Decent game, but you really gotta get into it deeply for a few hours if you're gonna be getting to the end.
