Surprisingly good

Its your usual find hidden objects game. Except instead of finding various items like animals, plants etc that you have to do in most of the other hidden objects game, in this one you find different types of shells. And you do so on various beaches. Sometimes the shells are half buried under sand, so you've got to dig about to find it. Sometimes the shells are embedded or are camoflouged into the surroundings to make it more challenging. You have to find a certain number of shells at each beach in order to collect a number of keys. Once you have enough keys you can then solve a puzzle to get through a portal to allow you to get to the next island.

The puzzles itself are not particularly challenging, in fact you could say they're quite easy. Certainly nowhere as challenging as the puzzles in MCF 3. Finding the shells are quite challenging, but not incredibly so. You'd probably manage to collect it all on your second try at the very least.

However the real winning point of the game is the way everything meshes in. The graphics for the beach and the waves which washes the shells up are beautifully done and very believable. That together with the realistic sound effects can sometimes make you feel like you're actually on a beach itself. There are many many different beaches, each beautiful in its own way. And to top it off, the music in the background is sort of like those natural sounds music cds you get when you need to relax or go to sleep, you know sounds of a rainforest, or sounds of a thunderstorm, that sort. Because of this I found playing the game incredibly relaxing.

Conclusion: if you're looking for something to keep you constantly entertained, this game isn't for you. But if you'd like a soothing game to relax and unwind, or to while away a rainy afternoon, then this is your winner.

Great value for money

This is one of those really great games that Reflexive comes up with every once in a while after a bunch of mediocre games.

The storyline is your usual standard RPG storyline: world in peril, you play the hero embarking on a quest to collect the essential items to save the world. The challenges in this game are more puzzle based rather than magic, scorcery or spell based (like Aveyond).

An example of the type of puzzle you'll frequently encounter is the one where you have to navigate your way to a certain item (usually a star or key) without passing through the same path more than once. The game creators have tried to be creative by creating variations to that theme, e.g. in one you might have a series of squares which sink once you've crossed it so that there's no turning back, in another you might have an ice flooring where you can only slide in one direction so you have to pick your path carefully or you won't be able to make your way back.

Other types of puzzles include placing other characters you'll encounter strategically so as to hold doors open or to allow you to cross rivers.

Much credit has to be given to the creators for thinking up so many types of puzzles. The puzzles are appropriately challenging...sometimes downright frustrating too. But when you finally solve it its incredibly satisfying. It also gives your brain a good workout.

The graphics aren't anything to shout about, nor is the music...but these are small matters. The important thing is the game has many challenges to go through which means you get value for money, and suitably stimulating so that you don't get bored to tears while you play the game.

Beware though, if you're the type that hates puzzles with a passion, or gets easily frustrated to the point you don't want to have anything further to do with the game, don't invest in this game. Best if you invest in something like Aveyond instead.

Better than ever!

The 3rd instalment to the MCF editions is finally out!
And its back better than ever. Now you play the role of a detective assigned by the Queen of England (seriously) to investigate an old run down manor where a ripped up diary belonging to a young American girl, Emma, had been found containing nothing but the first entry . She dissapeared mysteriously a number of years ago, and it is your task to search the manor for the missing pieces of her diary to provide clues as to what happened to her.

You will perform the usual task of seeking out the listed hidden objects within a specified period of time (although you are given the option of undertaking the task at your own pace if you wish). The new addition to the game is a number of elaborate locks to certain rooms in the manor which you must crack before you can gain access to the room and search for the clues inside. Beware these are not like any locks you have seen and can make you very frustrated! However do not fear, as if you find yourself unable to crack the lock, you may give up all your hints in exchange for the lock to be cracked for you.

Some players may find for the storyline here quite cliched, especially the ending, but for me I found it quite enthralling. The sound effects added were brilliant because they added to the atmosphere, and fit well with the storyline that unfolds as you uncover the missing diary pieces. In addition, some of the clues you are asked to find, or the objects seen lying about the house added to the creepy atmosphere of the house and leaves you wondering what had happened to poor Emma.

Overall I thought this was the best edition of MCF yet, as all the elements of the game - the storyline, the clues you are asked to find, the sound, the music - all fit together cohesively unlike the previous versions. So kudos game developers for topping yourselves with each edition!!

great game

This game is a passable replacement while MCF fans await the new installment of it. Basically you're sister has went missing and you are on her trail. To help you find her you have to solve puzzles in the form of finding hidden objects, spotting the differences between the puzzles, and rearranging pieces to put together a picture. Essentially this is sort of like the game Paparazzi, minus the annoying flaws present in the game (for those flaws read my review for that game). I would have given the game 5 stars but it just lacks a certain something MCF has.

Not up to par with MCF

This game is a spinoff the MCF genre. You are a paparazzi trying to uncover the celeb's dirty laundry. Each game is subdivided into 3 segments:
1. finding the hidden objects
2. spot the differences between two pictures
3. trying to snap pictures of the celeb
There is a time limit in which you have to finish the hidden objects segment, otherwise you have to restart the entire stage again. If you cannot find the hidden objects, you can purchase clues, but it'll cost you dear. The more clues you purchase, the costlier it becomes.

The storyline itself isn't bad. The main problem with this game is way its designed.
1. The hidden objects are not cleverly hidden or integrated with the surroundings like in MCF. Most of the time the hidden objects are "hidden" in the sense of making it as tiny as possible, to the point you are unable to discern any distinctive features about the object, thereby identifying it. I do not consider this to be finding hidden objects at all. Its almost as if the game developers are "cheating" in their attempts to prevent the players from discovering the hidden objects.
2. In the spot the differences segment, very often the pointer is simply inaccurate. Thus you will find yourself clicking frantically at the area where you've spotted a difference, but the game doesn't detect it at all, or worse, causes you to lose your accuracy bonus. (you get accuracy bonuses the longer your streak of correctly spotting the difference.)

Of course the developers do win points for the clever idea of using a viewfinder as a substitute for your cursor, to generate the feel of you running around with your camera lenses. The whole idea of being a paparazzi and looking for the hidden objects, which supposedly represent the things the celebrity is trying to hide is also clever (even if the items don't necessarily fit in with what you're told).

Overall I would say the game is interesting, but frustrating.
