Jugs go BOOM!

I'm fairly good at these games and got up to level 18-4 the first time before having to start all over again when I lost. The second time, I got up to 30-3, and lost. I'm not going to play it again, just to save my sanity. That is the only real problem that I have with this game.

The effects are neat. I am all about the splodey factor, and this game provides it as you go higher in level. I'm not really sure how you earn coins, or what the formula is for earning coins to buy powerups, but there seemed to be enough of them available to get what was necessary to move on. In the later levels, it's quite important that the explosions happen because there are way too many lines to keep track of otherwise.

The music gets annoying after a while, but enjoyable enough to not run screaming. It all helps in the process of zoning out from level to level. After all, there's 180 levels to contend with, and there can't be something added for each level that's passed.

Bonus levels are pretty keen. Instead of shooting jugs, you're shooting at bugs that are invading. In the later portions of it, there's a challenge in NOT shooting some of the things that are coming at ya.

Overall... a seriously well put together and solid game. It's one of the few that I am actually going to bother trying to complete because I like the way that it goes together. There's enough splodeys to appease the little kid in me, and the pitfalls aren't enough to take away from a high rating. I just have to remember to use some of the stuff from the 'Lab' more often to not lose lives early on. Stockpiling is good.

Nothing new to see here...

Definitely pretty pictures to look at, but there's not much change from any of the other Pyramids type games. There's different patterns, patterns which are made all the easier by wild cards, but the graphics are the best thing going on this one. Unique gameplay doesn't enter into the picture. This one ranks solidly as average.

I don't like... hey, waitaminnit!

Manga Dragon? You have GOT to be kidding me. Searching for the elemental stones of destiny? Umm... yeah. Any port in a storm, to be sure, just to get people to play this one.

Upon first opening this game, the immediate thought is Super Bounce Out. Round balls (pearls in this game) are moved to make groups of three to five for the sake of getting the purity and spirit back to the land of the dragons. For matches of four, there's a bomb - for matches of five, there's a 'flying pearl'. Of course, there's the black pearls that can't be moved, but can be matched with their brethren.

Normally, I would slam this game horribly for its derivative nature. Seriously, it had nothing really NEW and ingenious that kept my attention. I played, and got to the third level... and couldn't get past it the first time I tried it. The same thing happened in the fourth. Then it just kept getting harder and harder with having to get various colors to appease your draconic overlords.

What is it about proving your worthiness to get certain things? The elder dragons that you go to (that have apparently never ever heard of you, despite your grandfather sending you to get their prized possessions) are reluctant to give up their elemental pearls without some sort of hard test to follow. And then, after an especially hard level, these dragons tell you that the real challenge is beginning!

Is it possible to have Stockholm Syndrome for a game? This one held me captive, and as a result I feel a sort of sympathy for it. I can even recommend it for the challenge, but don't expect anything of the peripherals of music or graphics or story. It's all about the mechanics.

Would you like wine with that cheese?

What were the game designers thinking on this one? Take a somewhat unique mechanic with having to clear the stones, then muddy it up with cheese. Major cheese, in fact. You have 'no budget' Palpatine, 'trite, yet useless' KenobiWizard, and 'really bad voiceover chiquita' who tells you that the level's complete. There's three cheese points right there. Put that with a mediocre soundtrack, and yet another Match-3 game is born.

Butterflies go boom!

A beautiful game, though I didn't like it at first. I thought it was one of those mediocre games like so many that have been put out. Yeah, okay, butterflies, and a fairy that floats around. Whee.

But I started to play more and more levels, and there was a delightful splodey factor involved, with potions blowing up everywhere. That caught my interest, that, and the fact that there was actually challenge to some of the higher levels. I played it and couldn't keep my paws off of it for several days.

Keep with it and it will get better, trust me. :)
