Great graphics upgrade the standard match 3 to unlock blocks type game
I thought the puzzle game genre had hit it's peak when the match 3 game was transformed by the goal of matching over every block on the screen. I was so wrong. Treasure Island has the best graphics/decor of any title in hits genre. I love the pirate theme, and best of all, when you finish a level, you get to watch pirate skeletons dance around, celebrating your victory! Now, this sounds kinda hokey, but they have some nice moves. I've watched for them dance for several minutes at a time without seeing them repeat a dance move. Sometimes, I spent more time watching the skeletons dance than I did playing the actual game.
As soon as I have spare change, this is the game I'm going to buy. |

Every variation of Mahjongg rolled into one
You get to choose the path you follow among the levels, and there are different kinds of levels. In some, you finish by matching a black and white tile, some can be finished by finding a certain number of golden tiles, while still others can only be finished by completing all matches. In a few levels I played, it would rain down additional tiles at predetermined intervals, to lengthen the level. Once, I only had 1 pair of tiles left when it rained down. Yes, that's frustrating, but it also adds to the sense of challenge. My favorite type of level however, is finished by finding a treasure chest. When you click on a treasure chest, it opens and you obtain a new treasure for your collection.
This mahjongg game also contains a lot of powerups, like highlighting available matches, shuffles, and lightning (which blasts away quite a few matches for you). In the demo alone (I admit, I chose the easy level), I completed well over 20 levels, but there were many, many left to try.
Overall, this is a lot better than the average mahjongg game. The variations keep you interested, and the treasures capture your competitive spirit. I was so frustrated when the demo ended... |

quick to pick up and a game you'll love for years
Collect set groups of coins that are touching each other (not diagonally!) to earn money. Each level buys you a new item for your farm and it is fun to see the picture become more and more detailed after every level. Toward the end of the timed demo, play became a little tedious, but all I wanted was a little break and then I would want to play again, just to see what other things I could buy for the farm. There are a lot of special items that you can use -one collects all the pennies off the screen.
The game was very easy to learn, but has many, many hours of play built into it. I would love to see a version with foreign currency in it, to help learn other monetary systems.
This would be a great game for elementary schools, as you don't even notice the math when you're playing. Overall, this game is definitely worth buying, since it's appeal will keep you playing over and over again. |

Another match-3 game with faster gameplay
The game play moves quickly and has the general feel of Big Kahuna Reef (but sadly, no bombs like BKRII). When you have matched over all the golden tiles, additional areas appear with more golden tiles, so you never know for sure when you are about to complete a level. At first, it was unclear how additional sections of the board open up, but then I realized that all locked pieces must be unlocked, even if there is no golden background behind it. The different symbols are easy to distinguish and it makes for a fun relaxing game, as the levels go by quickly (I made it past level 30 in the 1 hour trial period). Overall though, I think I prefer the visuals and bombs of Big Kahuna Reef II. |

Hidden objects game needing an injection of variety
At first glance, you think "yeah, another hidden object game!" But this game sucks for one reason...every scene is a beach, and 90% of the objects you look for are different kinds of shells. There's an intriguing story line, fun powerups (a fan blows sand off the objects, so you can see them more clearly), and nice side puzzles (although rotating jigsaw puzzles also get old fast, no matter what twist you include), but nothing makes up for the fact that you're looking for shells on a beach. If there had been other hidden objects washed ashore, like bottles, diaries, etcetera, it might have been tolerable. But after so many levels (I played over 15 of them!) of finding the exact same pink shell (blue shell, etc.), you get really, really bored. Trust me, it doesn't get much better after you complete an island. The only things that vary are the powerups and the story. |
