Ok, I just have a new favorite game....
Seriously, FABULOUS!!! In not a single area does this game not take an A+! If you like puzzles, TRY THIS GAME! If you don't like puzzles, give it a shot anyway!
Full review:
Gameplay: Ah, a nice, simple puzzler with a good challenge curve. Elegant gameplay that's kinda like Rocket Mania and other connect-two-points games, but with an interesting board that makes it unique. But then, they take it up a notch, with....
Variety of Gameplay: There are two ways to build your bonus meter in-game. You can sit back and build a nice LONG chain with no penalty for time. OR, you can make a short, FAST chain before your bonus meter totally empties, keeping the gold bonus they give you at the start of each round. Which means this game caters to both styles of game play, at the same time, without any switching of settings. Not easy for a puzzle game to do, and lets you change strageties in-game. I LOVE that feature.
Graphics and Sound: Sleek, cute, and consistant for both. They add to the gameplay without distracting from it. The "building" between rounds is a nice visual representation of how you're doing, using bronze, silver, or gold material depending on how well you did, and adds something contrete to your efforts.
Storyline: A puzzle game with a story! I'm officially in HEAVEN. Interesting enough for those that like that kind of thing, and easy enough to skip if you just want to play. Man, these guys keep thinking of both kinds of players, don't they??
Extras: Fast-click mini game that's useful if you're good at it, no huge loss if you don't care (Again, caters to both). Collecting bonus stars that either build points or gives you coin bonuses. Greek myth facts tucked in the bottom of win screens that are spot on, very interesting, and still kid friendly (VERY hard with the Greek myths, trust me!) and, again, easy enough to ignore if you don't care the difference between Athena and Artemis. Oh, yes, and the Hero mode to unlock. Fabulous! |

This game kissed the Blarney Stone!
Very cute, very fun, very enjoyable game. Match 3+, with a twist as you literally twist your way round the board in any direction, trying to collect gold coins for your pot o' gold. I personally found the leprechaun voice cute, but I can see some people finding him annoying - luckily, you can turn off the voice-over in options. No flashy special effects, nothing tricky about this game - just pure, elegant gameplay with an Irish twist. |

Zuma without the shooting
Personally, I love Zuma and similar shooting-to-match-colour successors, but I lack some of the spacial skills needed to be really successful at them. So I end up getting frustrated at the later levels, when the game's going too fast or there are too many colours for me to be able to work out the aiming for small groupings.
And now, there's Dynasty. At first, swapping the balls instead of shooting may seem like cheating. But in reality, what it creates is a more strategic game, letting players build combos easier and plan the string, instead of looking for possible shots.
The game itself is also set up very well - the super dragons are cute, and the zen scenes gorgeous. Is it possible to use them as screen savers? Unlocking groups of them would make this game even better! |

Just about everything I could ask for!
Altantis Sky Patrol has some of my favorite features to make a puzzle-shooter that can play for just about anyone.
First of all, it has purchasable upgrades, always a favorite of mine. I haven't tested any of the other upgrades, but the "Accuracy" upgrade is perfect for me, a permenant line that gets longer as you strengthen it to use for aiming. Since aiming is my biggest issue with these games, this is fabulous for me. ^-^
The inclusion of the control panels that need to be destroyed adds an extra element not yet found in other puzzle shooters. Instead of having to make so-many matches to stop the flow of balls, you have to shoot matching balls to stationary ones around the board. This means people interested in getting through levels quickly (Or stopping the wave quickly, to get more bonus coins) can focus on those, while players interested in points can play a level almost indefinitely.
The graphics are sleek, and the "Sky Captain" 1920's sci-fi feel blends perfectly. The sound can be a little monotonous, but isn't too distracting.
Lack of an in-depth storyline, but for the other features, I'll forgive Atlantis Sky Patrol.
Thumbs up! |

A blockbuster even I can handle
I usually don't enjoy blockbusters, not being very good at them. But I gave Treasures of the Deep a try, and was pleasantly surprised. At the easy level, it was within my skills, and the boards were varied and interesting enough to keep my attention as I tried to get the hang of it.
There were plenty of bonuses that supplimented my "just trying to stay alive" style, including exploding blocks that took out anything nearby and plenty of extra balls strewn throughout a level. The bonuses that could be released were simple and clear to understand, including the typical "slow balls" and "lengthen bar", as well as easily identifiable compared to the negative counterparts.
My biggest problem with the bonuses were the rockets - I couldn't figure out how to properly aim them, and just ignorned them.
The graphics were ok, not as spectatular as other games on ths site, but not distracting. The sound was very good, complimentary to the gameplay and not distracting.
Final opinion: Easy enough for beginners, and with multiple difficulties it should be good for experts, too. |
