Stunning Design, Graphics, Gameplay... Everything!

Let me begin by saying I'm always skeptical when someone writes a review and gives 5 stars for everything, but in this case, I had to do just that, because Bejeweled Twist is simply a beautiful game.

Anybody who's played Bejeweled II can expect the same style of game, but with a refreshingly new game mechanic, where 2x2 blocks of gems are rotated clockwise instead of the traditional match 3 genre. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities, and challenges.

Normal play mode consists of levels in which you have to match a certain number of gems in order to progress to the next, while creating Flame gems, Lightning gems, and the elusive Supernova gems, and overcoming the ominously ticking Bomb gems and Locked gems. Continuous matches fill your combo meter, and if you can get it to the very top, you will be rewarded with the exquisitely rare Fruit gem. Other challenges in this include the Bonus matches, in which you match four colours in the order specified, and the difficult Mega Fruit Bonus, after which you are rewarded with a cute animation. And because Popcap are such nice guys, they give you a chance to stay alive if a Bomb gem detonates, or you lose in any other way.

Puzzle mode is also very well designed, consisting of 13 distinct challenges each with 7 sections and a final eclipse challenge, ranging from the relatively simple Detonator and Voltage challenges, to the difficult Enigma mode that requires substantial creative flair to complete.

And of course, what game of Bejeweled would be complete without the relaxing Zen mode, where there are no nasty Bomb gems or Locked gems and allows you to soak in the beautiful sound effects and ambient music, and admire the detailed graphics.

I think there is no perfect game, no game that cannot be improved on. But I willingly admit that Bejeweled Twist is the game which I believe is closest to perfection in the realm of Puzzle Games. If you doubt me, just try it. I swear you will not be disappointed.

Futuristic Puzzler

Paradixion is like no other puzzle game that I have ever seen. It combines great graphics with awesome gameplay to create a stunning puzzler.

In this game, you match up items to blow them off the board, but be warned...the order is significant: The many items placeable onto the board can explode, causing disastrous side effects. The levels start off simple, almost with tutorial-like explanations, but from there, the levels grow increasingly more difficult to solve, and near the end, nearing impossible. For those who can persevere, it will take time to work them all out, but for the simple-minded, online solutions are available.

This game utilises superb graphis with beautiful effects to complement the ingenious design of this game. I would suspect that the only downside of this game is a lack of extra levels available to download or a level editor.

However, this game is a stunning puzzler, and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in logical conundrums.

Eets: Cute, yet hungry...

Eet n. - Absurdly cute little thing with an insatiable appetite.

If you have a liking to little cute creatures, or if you are a puzzle fanatic, Eets is the game for you.

The aim of the game is to reach the end-of-level puzzle piece, eating along the way, much like the popular game of the olden days, Lemmings, and their sequels. As you progress through the game, you find that this is in fact, a rather addicting puzzler that you start to spend way too much time thinking about.

Within the relaxing cartoony environment, you are introduced to various problem-solving elements of the Eets world and must strategically utilise them to complete the level. Being too trigger happy may have helped you in games like Feeding Frenzy 2 or Big Kahuna Reef, but here, you really should think carefully about your next move, as it can affect your ability to complete the level, and careless clicking may lead to you bring stuck and becoming frustrated.

Complexity is heightened by the fact that the eets can have particular emotions. Thus, the path to the finishing puzzle piece, while seldom straightforward, can provide an engaging, and often entertaining experience becoming immensly frustrated with the eet for being just that bit too zealous and going too far.

Of course, the cuddly graphics and the dainty soundtrack blend seamlessly with the gameplay, creating a unique experience in the Eet world.

This engaging puzzler has all the elements of a great game. Rather than wasting your time playing games with no helpful purpose, you could be literally spending hours at a time solving the puzzling world of the Eets.

Tower Defense on a whole new level

I thought I had seen it all when it came to the Tower Defense genre. How wrong I was. I downloaded this game and was expecting a typical wave-after-wave style game with clichéd towers. Instead, I found a game that is probably as much a beautiful work of art as it is a great game!

Following a storyline and guided by the "Great Aa", you are slowly introduced to the various aspects of the game, which provides not only a great introduction to those as yet unfamiliar to this genre, but a thotough explanation of the differences this game has to offer to those who already play this style of game.

The aim of this game is not difficult, but at times, it can be entertainingly frustrating: Monsters follow a set path from start to finish, and the player's goal is to eliminate the monsters before they do by placing the so-called "towers". In this game, however, no longer are there the typical "air" and "ground" type towers, nor are there elements or other such variables.

The gameplay is much more freeform, with no grid-like places in which you are forced to position your towers. And the towers ("points") are unique. There are of course, the typical "slow-down" and "boost-attack" towers, but so too are there mine spreading towers, towers which become more powerful as they kill more. Some take advantage of the game's unique curving paths. And even more unique is the fact that the mouse cursor itself can damage the enemies.

Each level is completed not based on the number of waves, but based on time, meaning you must endure the attacks for long enough to reach the next stage. The currency for the purchase of towers ("cache") is carried on to the next stage, meaning you need to plan ahead.

All in all, I think this is a great game. While the graphics and sound may not the the top notch latest in 3D eye candy, it certainly has a distinct feel to it that very much matches the ethereal nature of the game itself, and in any case, the gameplay more than makes up for it!
