Great background story, not-so-great gameplay
When I first started the game, I was really impressed - the intro movie was quite cool and created a mystic atmosphere. Then all this stuff about the secret society of adventurers - the people, the letters and so on - very convincing. They even made a very serious looking homepage for the Pini Society. Really great job about the background story and presentation.
The game itself unfortunately cannot keep up with this quality. The game design is quite boring compared to other mosaic puzzlers, because in every game you have to fill the same square mosaic, only it has different tile patterns each time. No interesting shapes, no real variation in gameplay. Just the same blocky tiles in four colors over and over again. There are a few features though, that make the gameplay somewhat unique:
| a work area to "pre-construct" elements to gain higher score and create ...
|
| power symbols (special tile patters) to unleash bonus effects
|
| the Tesla Machine with its cool effects
|
Aside from the repetitive gameplay, you will probably encounter a huge problem concerning the time management after a few levels. Without using all the bonuses you can get, you will usually fail to complete a mosaic in time. Which means, you have to replay it - making the game even more repetitive... |

A basic Tower Defense without anything special
Monster Mash is one of the strangest Tower Defense style games I've played so far. Strange story, silly monsters and some weird a-cappella song as the only background music.
The gameplay is just like in all of these games, but faaaaar less interesting. You need to stop the monsters from getting into the village. You have all the standard basic towers at your disposal, with the usual upgrades, as well as some collectable power-ups to slow down monsters, increase the attacking speed of all towers and so on. The towers and their upgrades need to be build by a team of villagers, which also has to collect the power-ups and extra gold. There is only one such team, which makes things a bit stressful later in the game. Especially, since the team seems to forget it's orders every now and then.
The game is missing several features I've grown fond of with the last Tower Defense incarnations. Like targeting a specific creature, setting a target priority for towers or those "learning towers", that increase their performance over time by themselves.
Monster Mash is a very basic, very standard Tower Defense clone. And this is the reason, why the game gets boring after a short while - there is nothing special in this game, no new feature and not even a catchy story.
My advice: Take a look at Garden Defense for a very good Tower Defense game. |

Seek & Find meets Diner Dash
Well done combination of the classic Seek & Find with the fast paced gameplay and restaurant feeling of Diner Dash. Cool idea, nice graphics and funny dialogues (although the story is neglectable standard stuff).
There was only one thing I didn't like: The extremely fast progress. After each stage 3-5 new recipes are added - why didn't they make 2 or 3 stages more per restaurant and add only 2-4 recipes after each stage? Would also aid in memorizing them... |

Very original Seek & Find, but too easy
A very original seek & find game. I *really* like this game for the idea of the build-in puzzles and spots to place the "misplaced items" - it makes the game/gameplay feel much more... "round" than other seek & find with mini game interludes.
Unfortunately the game is very easy. Too easy. The pieces are often "hidden" a bit too obvious, the puzzles are no challenge at all. And this makes the game a short one - I have completed something around half of the manor just in the trial time (are there more locations or is it just the manor as seen on the map?). Oh, and the story isn't that much of a big hit, too. Why have they thrown away most of the potential of interacting with the ghosts ...? |

Not the best seek & find here...
Cate West is a nice seek & find game with good graphics, good music. But there are several things really disturbing me:
| It's painfully slow to play. All the fading in and out and the typing-text-effect demands some patience. Also, you cannot click on two items in short order.
|
| The story is weird and didn't really catch me. The characters are uninteresting (problably only because of the lame dialogues). Agatha Christie still has the best story.
|
| Ambiguity in the cluedo part.
|
| Pleeeenty of time to complete the parts (at least at the first few cases) - not a great challenge.
|
To me, it's a nice seek & find, but it didn't beat Agatha Christie's Poirot or MCF. |
