Great Episode
Overall
Well, beginning with Chapter 1, I have been pleasantly surprised by this game so far. I am new to the Monkey Island games (I never played the older games from long ago), but I have found this new title to be a lot of fun. I am glad Reflexive has this game in their catalog. The episodic element is the baseline for this new game, but I am left wondering what the major draw is to play each game in order. I could theoretically skip the first chapter(s) altogether. But I suppose a gamer either likes episodic games or doesn't. It is what it is. Nevertheless, I have found myself wanting to play each episode anyway, and I am eager for the third installment! However, I do wish that each episode was a bit cheaper.
Sound
The game music is really great, and the ambient music is also excellent. The voice-over work that is ubiquitous throughout this game is a huge draw. It is often funny and almost always amusing. So far all of the characters have had a talented voice actor behind them! The only issue I had with Chapter 2 was that the character Elaine's voice over dialogue was of poor audio quality. The "s" sounds sounded terrible. Other than that, I did not run across any major bugs.
Gameplay
A lot of fun. If you like puzzles that involve lots of trial and error, thinking back to previous conversations, and testing newly found items on various objects...you'll like the gameplay. The voice-over work makes the puzzles more interesting, giving one a reason to try doing things the wrong way just to see what the characters will say. Chapter 2 is relatively short, I finished it after about 2 hours (it is aabout the same length as Chapter 1).
Graphics
Great. The scenery and color blends are excellent. The texture work is also very good. I would say that the characters are obviously composed of polygons, but it is never distracting. It's a 3d cartoon basically. |

Ricochet: On the Mac
I recently checked Ricochet out on my Mac. It is like the PC version, save for the obvious Mac buttons and windows, it played smoothly and reminded me of great times playing it when it first came out on the PC.
From underwater levels (with great moving alien fish in the background) to Mayan visions of stone, the game is a feast for the eyes (with excellent music to thrill along the way). A great game. I would like to know, however, when more of Reflexive's developed games will be coming out for the Mac. Wik? Ricochet Infinity? Big Kahuna Reef 2?
Summary:
1. Works just as good as the PC version (which works wonderfully).
2. Ricochet Lost Worlds is a great game (I would say damn great, but I don't suppose the word damn would be allowed in a review?)
Good Job Reflexive! |

Build In Time comes just in time to blow Build-a-lot out of the water!
I heard about Build-a-lot a few months ago, I decided I could hardly stand it. But here comes Reflexive to the rescue once again, with their latest and greatest hot title....Build In Time!! Boy after playing hour after hour of this charming game, I came to fully realize the genius behind it. It is funny that nearly all of the reviewers compare it to Build-a-lot, but Build In Time is far, far superior to that strange game.
Gameplay
Building houses for customers, and then move them in quickly...boring right? Wrong! The timing and rhythm of the game quickly enters your system, and the ability to help build and paint buildings by clicking, keeps YOU active throughout the entire game! It is fun trying to match houses in three-in-a-row patterns for bonuses and super powered building capabilities. And the customers that come in have varying degrees of patience, and if they get mad look out! I won't give too much away, but the game play is five stars, and it boy oh boy does it rise to the top of the genre! If all of this wasn't enough, the game progresses through 6 decades of American history, unlocking new houses and seeing new customers along the way that fit the era! And wow! I had forgotten about the headlines of each decade that appear in the newspaper, The Decade Times, an awesome feature that tunes you in to the times. Such fun!
Graphics
The animations and characters are very charming. I also love seeing new background environments and of course the homes you get to buy and upgrade. The game is very friendly looking, unlike so many click management games, that seem to have quasi-realistic images mixed in with out of place cartoons.
Sound
Great tunes. Reflexive once again breaks all records for musicality in their games. I love the music in Music Catch, and Build In Time's decade music is no exception!
Overall, this is a great game. I had no let downs when I got the full version. So c'mon, what are you waiting for? |

Just like the PC version
Kudos to Reflexive for their new line of Mac Games. I downloaded Big Kahuna Reef on a Mac and found that all the great gameplay from the PC version was still there on the Mac.
Big Kahuna Reef is a classic match-em-up game. It has everything...traveling underwater, discovering exotic fish from around the world (with great educational info for every fish you unlock), seeing great art, backgrounds, enjoying the cool music and best of all, experiencing the quintessential Reflexive gameplay that has won them respect and loyalty (from me anyway). Cheers Reflexive and keep up the good work! Hope to see more great stuff like it in the future! |

What a great game...my Mac is happy now!
Well, I downloaded the new Big Kahuna Reef 2 Mac version, and boy does it run smoothly! The art is gorgeous and clean, and now that I have in on my mac, I am extra happy. Everything is exactly the same as the PC version (which is great too!). Thanks Reflexive! |
