Quick Action RTS Fun!

Summary - Bringing together a perfect blend of casual games' quickness and simplicity with the challenges of classic RTS (Real Time Strategy) games, KingMania delivers in a very fun way!

Pros - Humor!, simple gameplay, minimal interface (with maximum effeciveness) quick learning curve, excellent animation, upgrades specific to building type, and replayability.

Cons - No score, no timer, some minor translation issues. The difficulty scale increases amazingly fast, and its too bad the maps aren't larger or that there are not more than two armies on the map at any one time.

Comments/Observations - KingMania ambitiously scales down the classic RTS games to what they are really all about - conquering your enemy before he conquers you! And it does so excellently! The simple interface and clear objective allows the player to focus on accomplishing the task at hand...conquest! At the same time, the feature of upgrades provides the strategy for balance in use of resources. Combine that with deciding how many villagers and knights to allocate to offense and how many to defense, and you've got enough to have some very fun, challenging, and compelling gameplay!

A score and/or timer feature would have provided the opportunity for high scores, and what dedicated gamer doesn't want to better their accomplishments once they get the hang of a game? Without these, there's no reason to return to an earlier level, so its basically a trot through level after level...not that that's a bad thing in this case at all!

All a Sequel Should Be!

Games, unlike movies, seem to get better with sequels and the Dream Chronicles series is no exception. The story continues with Faye pursuing her family and Lilith keeping them apart. But the story, nice as it is, is simply to tie the game sequences together (yet done very effectively and in a very engaging way) and this is where DC2 truly shines!

The only complaint I could ever have about this game is the same I had with its predecessor...its just too short. Like the original, I finished it in two days which hardly makes it feel worth its purchase price, but during those two days it was fantastic!

Why Did it Have to End? :)

This game was so cute, so fun, and had such great details that I was almost sorry to finish it. I was a little disappointed in that there was no difficulty curve, but that wasn't a big deal. You were able to get all of the machinery right from the start, and able to upgrade them as you wanted...it would have been nice to have more limitations at the earlier levels of the game and then gain access to more equipment or better upgrades as you progress through the game.

That all being said, however, this is one GREAT game! Even the details like your character greeting each dog and cat is a nice touch. I especially like that you can hire an assistant. That's a feature other games would do well to learn from.

I highly recommend at least trying the trial version of the game. You'll get a week or two's worth of gameplay out of the full version, and you'll have a complete taste for the game by the time the trial expires.

Here's What they did RIGHT!

There seems to be a few strong camps in casual games; Hidden Objects, Dash-style, Poppers, and then those unique ones which stand on their own. While Parking Dash is clearly a Dash-style game, with so few "camps" and so many games, its easy to be just another "also ran". But in the tradition of all PlayFirst games, they don't change the general idea of the game, but they do a good job of keeping it new and fun!

Parking Dash takes a new spin on the Dash-style games by letting us park and return cars at local (albeit seemingly too small) parking lots. The characters are well done, the graphics are cute and fun, the story is ... well, its the same story as every Dash game...but what keeps it fun is PlayFirst knows how to do these well. Game balance is all a Dash game needs, and those folks never forget that.

If you love (as I do) Dash games, this should be on your Must Play list.

Ratings:
Graphics - 4 (Doing something NEW is the only way I give out fives here)
Sound - 4 (Not a lot of mood setting music, but its good and fun)
Gameplay - 4 (I always wish we had more variety in power ups so it wasn't so "eventually you get them all" style)
Overall - 4 (Its not reinventing the style, but its a solid contributor)

RTS on a GREAT Scale!

I was wondering if anyone could bring the fun and excitement that was started by Warcraft to casual gaming, and its well brought in The Dark Legions. If there's anything I'd criticize, and this is being REALLY picky, its that I'm used to some of the advanced camera features (zooming, spinning, etc.) that the full blown major games of the genre provide.

But if you've never had a chance to try a full blown RTS, this game will give you a solid chance to see how you like it. I'd highly recommend it to anyone even just looking for something that is NOT run of the mill from all the other casual games out there.
