Just Plane Fun

I love time management games, and this one is superlative. First of all, it's cute. The planes are cute, and if you handle them in good time, they leave the airport all happy. The graphics are good and very clear. And the game is challenging.

You have to manage planes. They land, unload, load passengers, and leave. Ah, but things are not so simple. Some planes need gas. Some need repairs. Different types of planes unload and load faster or slower. Some planes are more patient than others. You get extra points for having planes of the same color use the same Jetway, but sometimes you have more colors than Jetways. You get points for having planes take off or land sequentially, but sometimes your runways are fogged up or iced over. Sometimes planes arrive simultaneously and must wait to land; will you show a movie to make them more patient? Sometimes planes must wait for a free Jetway; will you offer a snack to make them patient then?

As the game goes on, it gets more and more complicated. Fortunately you earn money for each successful action, and you can use that money to upgrade, which makes things a bit easier. With lots of side games (can you run a full series of levels without buying an upgrade, can you keep a background item on the screen during a level) for trophies, this game never gets dull.

I rated the sound "liked it," since I don't use sound during the games.

Reflexive, how about Second Flight?

I'll be the lone voice of dissent

I didn't like it. What I didn't like was all the selecting in the minigames. It's very much like Sally's Salon, as others have mentioned. You help the customer at the measuring station and drag a tape measure into place. You help a person at the dressing booth and select the costume that makes them smile.

What that means is you really can't stack commands the way you do in Diner Dash. Every time you try to get a jump on the game, you are back to trying to decide if a particular customer wants a vampire or pirate costume. I think Beach Party Craze is better at this because while six of the tasks have this minigame requirement (sandwiches, grill, bar, water, toys, and souvenirs) the other eight (new swimmers, boat rental, scuba rental, banana, cleanup, water refill, restock, and disco) don't. Airport Mania has minigames, but you play them for bonus trophies; they aren't crucial to game play and don't affect it.

I wish there were a way to turn off minigames in games like this. What I like about the time management games is the time management. Balancing the extra points you get for doing an action a certain number of times against losing points because other customers are waiting and losing patience. The minigames interfere with what I think is the attraction of the game. If I wanted to play Cube Crash, I'd download Cube Crash. I don't want to play it; it's of limited interest to me. Having to play it as part of Costume Chaos made me stop playing after 20 minutes.

By the way, Reflexive, why do we have to rate the sound? I hate sound in games and don't turn it on unless I have to (like in Duke Nukem, to hear the bad guys behind me shooting at me).

Really Disappointed

I played the online version of this game and really, really liked it, so I thought for sure I'd love the full version. I mean, that comes with all kinds of extra stuff, right?

Ick.

First of all, the models don't move in the online version. It's a bit like playing with paper dolls. That they do move in the download version is tres creepy. The graphics aren't smooth, either. They pixellate as they move, which is annoying. I would have liked this a lot better if I could have turned off the model motion.

The online game is a version of pyramid solitaire where you have to match items of clothing rather than build runs of cards based on number or suit. The download version is about 80% that. The other 20% is reviewing your fashions, voting for the best one, watching your current level earnings being added to your total earnings. These things should be bypassable. I want to play cards, not take photos of virtual models wearing cyber clothes.

Removed after ten minutes.

I didn't like it

In this game, it's not enough to find the object and click on it; you also have to drag it to the person who wants to buy it. Sometimes you have to decide between two people offering different amounts for it. I had a hard time controlling the mouse to grab the objects and drag them to the buyer.

The graphics leave a lot to be desired. The background is blurry and out of focus, so the objects stand out, but figuring out what the objects are is hard. OK, a backpack is a backpack. But why is this clock not acceptable. Oh, because it's a wall clock. And the metal plaque doesn't look like any plaque I've ever seen.

Uninstalled.

Great in Concept, Frustrating in Execution

I love Farm Frenzy, and I'd really love to love Farm Frenzy 2. Unfortunately, it's mostly exasperating. It's full of bugs.

Like Farm Frenzy, it has crop processors. Turn your milk to cream, your cream to butter, and--with purchased retsin--turn your butter to cheese. You can upgrade these processors to process 2, 3, 4 items at a time. Unfortunately, the don't always stay upgraded.

Bears threaten your livestock, and you must cage them. When they break out of the cages, they run away from your farm. As they pass processors, they often knock them down to less powerful processors.

It's really hard to meet a gold medal gold when instead of buying five more cows you have to spend your money re-upgrading your processors.
