Take into consideration the purpose of this game.
I think the first thing before you try or even download this game is to ask yourself what does one expect of such a game; Fatal Hearts calls itself a puzzle game, but it is more of a visual novel than a game - though the player is required to be more interactive than usual when it comes to a visual novel.
The visual novel is exactly what it is: a visual novel. The characters speak their lines and act out their parts visually for the players and the players get to make their choices. Do you trust this person, what do you do? From these actions, the player is eventually led to fourteen different endings, showing us fourteen sides of the same story.
For me, Fatal Hearts was a wonderful play. The fourteen endings clearly illustrated the different backstories and characters and showed me to feel for them and made me want to understand more of them. The multiple routes allow for countless replays as each choice turns the story in another way and shows you what you what you might not have expected previously.
The art leaves more to be desired but the storyline is certainly well done and it makes me hope Reflexive will publish more visual novels like this. |
