I got hooked!
The Hookman was fun from start to finish and a bit scary also, which is always a plus. I hate HOGS as a rule, but when they are done well, and the hidden objects are within context, along with other puzzles and a great storyline, then I actually enjoy finding them. The cutscene graphics are absolutely gorgeous, not even big expensive games have such beautifully rendered character art. I can't wait for the next campfire! |

Get this game!
The storyline will pull you in and the scenic graphics are gorgeous even if some of the main character graphics are not exactly top quality. For this amazing price you get an immersive, challenging, imaginative, character-driven adventure game that won't drive you crazy with stupid, useless, twiddle puzzles or timed memory games that stop you dead in your tracks (Dream Chronicles, anyone?) I played this for about a month at my leisure and enjoyed every minute. The Legend of Crystal Valley is in the same class as any of the great adventure games like The Longest Journey (the first and best one, not the lame sequel). This game is a keeper, I am leaving it installed so I may play it all over again later on. |

The sea is deep, the game is not.
As others have said, this match-3 game is relaxing, easy to play, and challenging without being frustrating, which is exactly what I want in a casual game. Add in clear graphics that are large and detailed in windowed mode, non-irritating background music and sounds, a storyline that you can follow or skip, and you have the perfect little time-waster. This one is a keeper, so dive right in. |

Scary bad
I am not a fan of seek and find games, or HOGs as they are called by aficionados. I recall playing exactly three that I really liked, and can't remember their names or I would list them here, which is a shame since I wouldn't mind playing them again. One involved finding seashells on a beach, one had a Mayan princess, and one was a deep sea diving archeological adventure. Those were all different and entertaining, definitely not like Ghost Town Mysteries!
I expect any newer seek and find game to have innovation, great graphics, a good storyline, and intriguing puzzles. Nothing like that here, unless you love jigsaw puzzles. The biggest problem are the graphics - so busy, blurry and high contrast that I just sat waiting for the hints to regenerate, and even then after using hints I would sometimes still not be able to see the object needed.
The story itself made no sense as it went along and couldn't hold my interest. After the fourth jigsaw puzzle I just said enough is enough, and I still had 30 minutes left in the demo! |
