Important Info DEFINETLY READ before buying

Hi everybody!

I'm pretty sure there's a little discrepency going on at the moment with this release. On reflexive, this seems to be marketed as an improved version of Jets'n'guns, so then, why would you pay $30 for what appears to be an add on to a game you already own? Well, very simply, you wouldn't, because this isn't an addon :o

This here, is what we call an expansion. It contains all the content from the original game plus:

"Game resolution raised to 800x600!

Number of levels is DOUBLED!

7 new customizable ships!

17 new weapons!

70 new enemies!

Secret levels, items and ships!

Briefing texts replaced with comics screens!

Game soundtrack was expanded with 6 new tracks!

Medals and ranks!"

So everyone, allow me to point out the important bits. Increased resolution means a better looking game, doubled (21 extra) levels means this isn't a simple addon, it's effectivly a whole new game, which happens to come with the original set of levels as well. As well as that you get a whole heap of new weapons, and I'm not even gonna describe the craziness of playing a game with 270 enemy types.

So, thats a heck of alot of new content, this is effectivly two games in one, the original, plus all this new content that basically makes a new game.

Enjoy, it's a brilliant game!

Greatest platformer for the PC

Wow, I never thought I would see this game here.

This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest platformers ever made for the PC. The platforming genre has grown rather stale, but this game takes it, and adds an amazing physics system, thus creating one of the most innovative and unique gaming experience in years.

This is going to sound pretty crazy, but in this game, you control a black blob of tar. It's able to squish itself and such, allowing you to squeeze through small spaces, it's also capable of clinging to walls, allowing you to crawl up surfaces and even along cielings, and it's also able to go into a "heavy" mode, allowing it to crush enemies and other obstacles.

It's very hard to explain what makes this game so great, really the only way to understand it is to play it, it's definetly worth the download, so I recomend you do. What I can say though, the graphics are great, the music is also very well composed, and the level design is top notch. Mixed with some HIGHLY creative physics puzzles, it's even better.

Oh, and before I wrap up, I should mention the multiplayer mode. If you have someone to play with, it has a multiplayer mode for two people using the same PC, it has some pretty crazy modes, from ordinary deathmatch to a rather odd football match. Makes for a greatparty game!

Anyway, if I havn't got the message accross yet, this game is a MUST, at least download it and try it out, I assure you you'll end up wanting to purchase it. This is probably one of, if not the greatest game currently on reflexive.

A great Sudoku game!

It's annoying when someone writes a review calling a game dull when they don't seem to understand the game and don't even give any proper comments. So I'm writing this review to give everyone a better idea of what this games like.

The first thing to realise, is this game simulates Sudoku perfectly, so if you find sudoku boring, you will find this game boring, if you find Sudoku enjoyable, you will find this enjoyable. If you've never played Sudoku before, I recomend you download this and go through the help pages in the game, it explains all relevent strategies well. When you first start playing Sudoku you may be put off by how many choices you have and assume it's all guess work, well it's not. It's a logic game, and there is absolutly no guess work to it. Make sure to read the help in game.

This game includes 10 difficulties, each nicely done, I started at difficulty of 1 and am now easilly doing difficulties of 6, so you'll definetly learn how to play through this game. The presentation is clean and easy to understand, although some people may call it "dull" as the other reviewer did, I call it stream lined, it avoids unnecessary details so as to make the experience as focussed as possible. A nice effect is the way it records the possibilities of every cell for you, when you add a number in a cell, you get a satisfying "chalk" noise as it removes the number marks from other cells.

I'll also give some mention of the background music, it's unobtrusive which is good, and also calming. It keeps you relaxed while your trying to solve the puzzles which is nice, and it doesn't seem to get annoying or repetitive which is very good, great choice of music.

Lastly the high score boards are great. This game has a very active community, so the high score boards are always full. They show scores from the last 24 hours, so you always have a chance of getting in them.

So, if your after a classic game of sudoku, you can't get much better.

Greatest indie RPG ever!

Before I begin I would first like to say, the guy who rated it low cause it looks like an old atari game really has no sence of style. This game uses pixel art, as did all the great RPG's from the Snes era. I think of it as homage, and it really is very nice art, personally I love it :)

The actual game is brilliant, and also, someone mentioned there was no tutorial, the reason for that is that the game does a brilliant job of explaining everything as you play. And it does it brilliantly. The designer has obviously done alot of work trying to get the game to teach you how to play in a subtle way, I ended up learning everything while completing little tasks, without even realising I was playing through a tutorial. The learning curve was handled perfectly in my opinion!

And the gameplay really reminds my of the best of the Snes RPG's. (which are arguably some of the greatest ever made). These days I guess I'd compare it to a GBA or Nintendo DS RPG. Infact quality wise this game could easilly be released on either of those handhelds for over $30. As it is you get it for 19.95, can't get much better then that!

Before I wrap up, I should mention that the music is just brilliant! The music that plays during the opening with the butterfly is some of the best I've EVER heard in an indie RPG (infact better then alot of commercial console RPGs). Oh, and I should also mention how involved and helpful the development team is. On the official forum a user mentioned that they were having problems with a glitch (some bignum error I forget now), infact I had the same error when I was trying to install the trial for my mom to try. Amaranth, a programmer who developed the game replied on the very same day and had the error fixed for within the next few days. Thats magnificent service which you rarely, if ever see from any games developer!

So, a brilliant game from a very dedicated developer! Hoping to see more great games from you guys in the future!

Not a bad game, time for some background

Guys, you can't really attack this game for "ripping" off raptor, it's by the same developers. This game was produced after Raptor, and is the first game in the "demonstar" series.

blaming it for looking like a 10 year old game is probably rather redundant as well, it is a 10 year old game. When it originally came out the graphics were acctually very good, and they hold up rather well. This is the first time i've seen this game on a site other then the developers, so hopefully they'll also be releasing the two sequals here, which do look better and are more challenging.

Thats an important point too, these games are not about eyecandy (although the sequals look very nice), it's about the challenge. Crank up the difficulty and play it for more then 10 minutes, this game is hard. Also, it's one of few proper arcade style scrolling shooters on reflexive. Graphcis aside, the amjority of these style of games arn't done overly well, they miss the intensity that this genre is known for. However demonstar hits that, and older gamers will notice, if you loved the scrolling shooters from the arcades, this should bring back memories, I recomend you give it a go.

Another great feature is the multiplayer, it's got a proper coop mode, again just like these games used to be in the arcades. Here's a tip, play with two players, but make the controls on both ships the same, then press the ships up against the side of the screen to put em back to back, and you'll have double fire power, as well as extra enemies to take down due to being in coop mode.

Well, thats about it, give this game a shot, it's not a rip of raptor, it's by the same developers. Some reviewers say the demonstar series is the best of this genre on PC, I'd tend to agree, especially for those up for a challenge. The graphics arn't up to todays standards, but the games 10 years old, I'm sure you can cut it some slack. Here's hoping for the rest of the series!
