Casual vs indie

I'm surprised to see this game here really, and it's no wonder it's getting some low ratings. I'm going to write this review a little differently from my previous reviews and explain something which I think is rather important in the indie/casual gaming zone.

I'm sure you all know what a casual game is. Zuma, Big Kahuna Reef, nearly all match 3 games etc. They're built for casual gamers, hence the name. Then you get indie (independent) games. These games come from independent studios, normally of only 2 or 3 people. Generally these groups make all the casual games as casual games are normally rather simple to design for the smaller budget these indie studios have. However, some indie studios do not create such casual games. Examples of indie games that are not so casual would be Gish, Gumboy or Risk II (all available on reflexive!).

Now the majority of people on this site are no doubt after casual games, such as the match 3 games, or the currently rather popular Mystery Case Files series. So when we get an independent game on reflexive that isn't really casual, it can be kinda hit and miss. Most of these "not so casual" games such as this one have been out for years on the developers website and have only come here now in an attempt to sell a few more copies to the more casual market. Obviously these sort of games don't always appeal to this market, this game is obviously getting a bit of a love/hate thing going here.

So, what am I getting at? This game is acctualy good, I'm not going to go into the details because I don't have enough room. However, it probably doesn't appeal to the taste of alot of people here who simply arn't looking for this type of game. What I recomend you do, if you have enjoyed previous less casual games such as Gish or Gumball, is to give this a shot. It's a rather hefty download, but if you can spare it you may enjoy it.

However, if your a casual gamer who's simply after a quick fun puzzle game, you may want to skip on this.

Must have for old school gamers

wow, i downloaded this game expecting nothing special, just another average game that is pretty much the same as every other game on reflexive. However i was plesantly suprised to find this game, which turns out to be completly different from anything else i have found on reflexive, it impressed me so much i signed up just to write this review. The excessive blood and over the top voilence gave the game a humorous edge that made me laugh because it was just so overkill.

I was very impressed that it even included admiral ackbar and his famous quote "its a trap", was there anything this game missed out?!! This game had me wide awake and constantly wanting more the entire way. I would definatly recomend it to anyone who would consider themselves an oldschool gamer, but it would most likely not appeal to the average diner dash, or match three player that this site mostly attracts.

Top job 10/10 no doubts

Drift is righ, but...

I am totally agree with Drift, his review is brillant and deep (I gave him a 5), but well... I didn't like Zombie Smashers very much. I love Gish and another "indie games" but I found this one a little bloody and savage, is not my type of game. But that's just my opinion and I think is EXCELLENT that in Reflexive everybody can find all kind of games.
