Wik & The Fable of Souls - Perfect!

It takes one minute to know why Wik & The Fable of Souls is an award winning game. It takes ten minutes to know you want this game. What you might not know is "Wik" has a large following. There is a game home page and a forum with tips and answers to any questions you might come up with. You can download the wonderful music to play independently of the game to add to your music library. There is even a "unsupported level editor" so you can add to your game. Not only that, there are others who have already played the game and you can download the master pack that allows you to extend your play. But, those are things that you might wait to do.

You do not have to have the demo running to read the manuals or tutorials! Save your time for actual game play. This is the style of game package with community support that continuously keep game play fresh even if releases new releases don't show up. And the polite designers set the brightness bar at the lowest setting for comfort. Those of you who like blasting lights can increase the brightness even though the scenes are "perfect" at the default settings.

You have to see for your self - no review can do it justice. Get the demo - you can't lose.

Wik it and Wik it Good!

This is an amazing game. The very unique gameplay and story is both entertaining and absorbing. Reflexive has created a wonderful yet creepy new character, added rich graphics, a great storyline, and very challenging puzzles. The results are spectacular. In short, there is no game like this on the market.

The game presents different challenges from level to level, with new obstacles and ever changing enemies. Moving Wik around the screen requires agility and quick thinking. It is not easy at first to learn how to get Wik to stick and swing. However, Reflexive has included a great Challenge Mode which allows you to practice your skills and learn from your failures. This is incredibly helpful as you must learn to move Wik quickly to be successful. Wik gathers Grubs and fights off bugs, collecting coins and gems along the way.

In Story Mode, you are faced with chapter after chapter of increasingly difficult situations. On each level you need to help Wik move around the scene by jumping and sticking his tounge to trees, platforms and branches. Grubs pop up everywhere, requiring Wik to move quickly from one area to another. His sidekick, Slotham, walks slowly along the ground, eating honey if he can find it and collecting the grubs that Wik spits at him. Each level has a grub collecting goal and is timed. There are a huge variety of powerups that mysteriously appear. As you collect coins and gems, you are able to add additional lives and fill holes in a very mysterious shield that appears at the end of each level.

The game is very addictive and worth the download. You may find yourself buying it before the very generous 120 minute trial time runs out!

Wik is AWESOME!

The sticky tongue stretching acrobatic loopyness you can perform in this game are just about the most fun I have every had controlling a character in a game. I love the feeling of connection to the main character - Wik - that you feel when playing, the story and the graphics are amazing too.

There are loads of levels too, I find that when I get stuck on a particular story level, going and playing a few of the challenge mode levels helps me to build my skills, when I then go back to play story mode I get through quite easily.

I wish it was possible to give a game more than 5 stars, this game deserves way more!

WIK: THE FABLE OF SOULS

Wik: The Fable of Souls is an unusual little action puzzle game in which the title character, a froglike critter with an elastic tongue, must jump and swing his way through more than 100 different levels while spitting grubs at his docile buddy, Slotham. Featuring an award-winning design and plenty of challenging scenarios, Wik more than makes up for its initially bland presentation with plenty of compelling, briskly paced gameplay. Each of the game's levels takes place on a static screen, typically riddled with trees, rocks, and other platforms, as well as coins, gems, and various bugs and other creatures. The first thing you notice when you start playing as Wik is that he can't actually walk around--he can only jump, and by moving the left stick in different directions, you can make him either leap high or far, or somewhere in between. The controls definitely take getting used to, but with some practise soon enough you'll be controlling Wik with finesse. The layout and objectives of the game's 100-plus levels are all a bit different, but the typical scenario involves sucking up little green grubs worming their way around the level and then spitting them toward Slotham, a slow-moving critter who moseys his way across the screen. Though the gameplay in Wik: The Fable of Souls is really quite entertaining, the presentation leaves something to be desired. The visuals are, in a word, small. Static background images and tiny moving characters will leave you squinting at the screen. Even Wik himself can be difficult to notice at first. The audio in Wik is also nothing to write home about, for the most part. There's a bit of ambient music that plays during the levels, though it's strangely eerie, setting a mood for the game that should have been more lighthearted. The Fable of Souls is well worth your while. It's one of those games that you could just as easily enjoy for a few minutes or a few hours at a time.

Fantastic game!

Wow! Wik & the Fable of Souls is a highly original game, with beautiful graphics, excellent music and, above all, wonderful and challenging gameplay. This game has everything a good pc game should have - and lots more.

In Story Mode, you guide Wik through the 'Fable of Souls', consisting of seventy 'chapters' (i.e., levels). Wik moves around by jumping and swinging. You control him entirely with the two buttons of your mouse. This may take some practice, but it's really worth it. It's awesome to make Wik swing and have him perform loops! Story mode is quite challenging, but when you use Wik's special skills it can be done! I've finished Story Mode lots of times now, but I'm still enjoying playing it over and over again.

The other game mode, Challenge Mode, can be used as 'practice mode'. You learn a lot about using Wik's special abilities there. If you get stuck in Story Mode, just switch to Challenge Mode to practice your skills for a while. You can also 'compete with ghosts' in Challenge Mode, which is truly challenging.

Wik & the Fable of Souls is, without a doubt, by far the best 'indie' game I've ever played. The trial period is too limited to really discover how great this game is, so you should simply buy it. You won't regret it!
