Classic goodness for the masses
I have to agree with DutchBreeze, so I won't go on about the things he's already mentioned. I'd say this is more of a spinoff of Galaga 88 than the original Galaga. Edgar M Vigdal's one-man-show is a soulful look into the past of great games.
Edgar hails from Norway, home of some of the world's greatest programming tour-de-force's, and that would explain why some of the music mentioned in the credits is in .MOD format. Vigdal also seems responsible for the release of Deluxe Galaga 2.x circa 1994 on the Amiga.
There's a bit of a flaw in the menu system as the initial menu does not seem to always be available. However, if you get the chance, also give the Time Trial mode a look, it's quite crazy.
Yes. Having mini-games nested within the game is awfully brilliant, we need more of those old-time programming efforts.
I was sad to read that there's 100 levels as the level indicator is in the 4 digits. Perhaps an add-on pack is planned? We need more games like these. |

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw
Weeeeeeeeeeeee... I am not much of A shooter genre person, more of A Role-Playing Game person. I always did like Space Invaders, Galaxian, and Galga.
Nice to see some one doing some retro programing. With improving Graphics.
This game is alot like Galaxian and Galga. Games from the 1980's.. If you have never lived during that era. Please, Download this game. This game is the best for reviving a diing game. |

The best Galaga remake available today!
For those who played at the Arcade and spend a lot of money on the classic Galaga from the early 80's are going to love this jewel! Warblade is the way you always imagined Galaga to be back in 1981, with nice graphics, good music and a very addictive gameplay.
This PC version Warblade is actually a pimped up version of the Amiga release Galaga Deluxe, which I played over and over in the mid 90's.
The story for the game is like all those in this genre. Earth is invaded by aliens and you are the only one who can defeat them and their leader, usually called Big Boss. You're send into space to kill them all. The first waves are easy, but as you get stronger so does the aliens.
How do you recognize a good game? If your playing for several hours and thinking you just played it for 5 minutes! This is one of those games. Having a brused index finger from shooting those aliens back to where the came from, I decided to buy the game. I have no single regret and after two years the game still gets updated, so you can get the latest version free of charge.
The game has two nice ingame minigames: Meteor Storm and Memory Station, which will give you some "rest" between the stages. Also Time Trail will keep you wanting to beat the (online) highscores and keeps you coming back for more...
My Ratings:
Graphics: 6.0 - It's not a 3D frenzy of nice looking graphics, but it's more then enough for this kind of game.
Sound: 7.5 - Ingame music often get annoying after a couple of hours, but not this one. Then again, you might not share my musical taste. Lucky you there is a Jukebox where you can select your own music (like MP3's) during gameplay.
Gameplay 9.8 - Probably near perfect arcade gameplay with many extra's, different and a lot more for the fans. A great replay value. Note though: Very, very addictive!
Closing comment: It may very well not be your thing (2D Shoot'em ups), but if it is...this one is it. |
