Cheesy commercial game, a victim nonetheless
At first glance I've notice the similarity between this game and the movie series SAW, that suspicion turns out to be right on the money, but have been altered somewhat to assimilate with the game play mechanics.
Unlike the usual seek and find game- where the game would reveal a piece of the storyline as a reward for a job well done- this game did none of that and just kept telling you to find various object throughout the game; your abductor occasionally blurted out something sarcastic or sinister, but the dialog is repetitive and doesn't reveal much in terms of the nature of the abductor so the emotion falls completely flat. Like the comment was a replay coming from a tape recorder. As for the story element, there is none: "You trying to escape" about sums it up. Several item and information was reveal to protagonist near the beginning of the game, but the concept was abruptly drop and the later half of the game consisting the character looking for various useful item to escape, though many of them were never used.
I could have complain more about how it was never explain (unlike the movie SAW) why the protagonist have to look for various items (an invisible battle royal collar?). And how the graphics looks all dim and dark and seems like a lousy excuse for the graphic designer to slack off on the details rather than to fit in with the general theme. And why didn't the protagonist didn't just grab a sledge hammer and smash those doors open instead of this unnecessary process of finding the right key.
In short, there is no story element, there is no characterization, there is no background music, there is a limited variety of scenery- and there is no closure. If you're a "seek and find" fanatics, then you might want to give this game a try; otherwise, stay away from this game, because it's a "trap". |
