Flitting about in "the Great Tree"
We recently upgraded from a notebook PC to an iMac, and the only complaint has come from my teenagers that we now have nothing to play [only work stuff ... ick!]. After browsing through Games on Apples website I came across the Great Tree of life and immediately fell in love. Not only do I love the game, but I was so happy to find Reflexive's website!!! My daughter found many games here that she's been wanting to play on the PC and everyone is happy [although now I'm elbowing for time to work on the Mac while they play away].
This game is fantastic ... almost like a fairytale version of DigDug. If you love collection games and have a mind full of imagination then this is a game you will love! |

Great Tree, Great Game!
I find it hard to type beyond the word gorgeous! The graphics are, hands down, the best I've seen released on reflexive, by reflexive. So many realistic graphics inside that it, literally, creeps me out to see a mushroom man with eyes that follow me, & I wince at the thought of being eaten by a frog! The movements of the enemy are so genuine that when you’re attacked, you’re a bit dismal about it but at the same time you can’t help but be amazed at how remarkable & authentic they move.
The movements are fluid with the mouse, & so easy to control. The game's objective very simple & relaxing, but at the same time - does provide a slight challenge. If you aren't paying well enough attention, you can be eaten, poisoned or a many other things that lay in waiting. This has a very tiny touch of RPG in it as well, considering you can build your fairy's stats as you play to be healthier, stronger, or even faster.
I think the game could be a bit more challenging, on normal mode, by not having the Swee bounce around endlessly on your screen. It isn’t very difficult with not having the pressure of them "going away" before you can get to them. It’s almost too easy.
Some may grow bored of the simplicity in play style, but the few of us who get caught up in the story will continue to play & maybe set our own challenges of "how many bugs we can kill in one blast".
I, for one, found the music, game play, story line &, above all, graphics to be top of the line considering the games on the arcade market today. It kept me playing all the way to the end of the game & I loved it! You really cannot deny playing this beyond trial.
A couple of words about the music: beautiful, entrancing, relaxing, and a work of art. It’s worth buying this game just for the graphics & sound alone!
I do believe this is a game for mainly women & younger children, as men may not appreciate the idea of playing a fairy. Replay is certainly possible in this game. |

The Great Tree
My sister and I stumbled across this game and fell deeply in love with it. Carmen's voice is perfect. The only thing missing is more adventures and more swee to save. I've just had the gave about 6 days and am in the 3 session of enjoyment.
I want a message to get to the team that put this together and tell them from my, thank you.

Another Diamond in the rough.
In the past 2 weeks, I have been amazed at the quality and diversity of the games posted here.
And now Reflexive has added one of their own Masterpieces to the mix.
The Great Tree at first glance is a game aimed at Women and Children. But after playing it, I have to say, as a man, that I was thoroughly impressed!
The game is simple to understand.
You are a fairie, and must collect pollen with your ponytail and then when your ponytail is full (between 10-18 pollens, depending on the level) you have to deposit the pollen in the glowing receptacle at the top. In the meantime, you are dodging bees, wasps, and creatures I cant even describe. You control the fairie with your mouse ONLY.
When you fill up with pollen, and make the deposit, you are rewarded with power-ups that include lightning to make the enemy dissapear, or ice-freeze that freezes the enemy temporarily, and a number of other power-ups designed to help you through the game.
The learning curve is easy and you are up and playing in no time.
The story is a tiny bit weak, but the gameplay is outstanding.
The music is very relaxing and doesnt distract you (I swear that I thought I heard strains of the Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin"!).
And the graphics are breathtaking.
It IS kinda creepy to see a tree with eyes follow you, and when you get too close to his mouth, he tries to suck you in. Sometimes successfully.
All in all, The Great Tree can be played by any sex, young or old.
Its not that hard, and it is a totally different game than any I have ever played.
Stop reading this-----go download the trial, then get your credit card out, because The Great Tree is a MUST HAVE!
Now excuse me while I go beat level 71!! |

The Great Tree
I usually don't write reviews on games......but....WOW....what a fantastic game!! As soon as the demo expired...I purchased the game. The art work is gorgeous. The graphics are amazing! The colors used in the backgrounds are beautiful and very easy on the eyes...for I am not getting any younger.
I have a trackball mouse and everything flows so smoothly. The fairies movements are very smooth and natural.
The music.....ahhhhhh....the music. Wonderful....for it fits so well with this game. I find myself humming with the music during the game. The music does not distract you...for it is very relaxing and soothing. I fact, I love the music so much....that I find myself playing it on my Native American flute.
Who ever did the narration of the story really did a poor job. The sound of the voice is very boring with no emotion. To bad the story teller could not "get into" telling the story...for it would have added so much more to this game. This is the only negative part of the game that I found.
I have been playing in normal mode and found it relaxing with a challenge to it. ..and yes....addicting. Because of the art work and the graphics I will be playing this game more often then any of my other ones. So, overall....excellent game, graphics, story and music. Great job Reflexive!!!! |
