One of my favorites...

What an awesome game. Gathering resources, building houses, building your army...this is the type of game I love.

You can choose campaign mode, which takes you through the story, or you can choose to generate a random game. I love playing both modes.

The only downside for me is I guess my computer is "up to date" enough to handle the action. During battles, the gameplay is "boggy". Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

One thing I would like to see is a mode where you don't have to battle...unless you choose to. (The game Build-a-lot offers this type of option.) I'd like to populate a land, build my castle on it - leaving it well fortified, then move on across the world. I enjoy the "building and gathering" part so much I'd like to be able to do it without the threat of battle.

All in all, this game is definitely worth the download. I've had it for quite sometime now, and I always come back to it when I get bored with other games.

Simly the best

This is not an average casual game, much more than that. I think it could be sold in shops as a boxed game. Every needed feature that you could expect from a strategy game is in there. In my optinion it is the best strategy game you can find on this site, and probably on other casual sites too.
I missed some background music though, but apart from that I'm very satisfied! I could recommend this game to everyone who like medieval war games including economy management and massive battles. I hope there's gonna be a sequell...

A monstrous undertaking

You really have to commend Mascot Entertainment for undertaking such a large project and putting it out on the market at the casual price. The gameplay is nearly identical to Warcraft II and III but toned down and simplified a bit. There is really no other game on this site that covers so many features and is so well designed, although the design was already developed by Blizzard so this is just another clone, but of a higher caliber.

For someone who has never played Warcraft or simply cant afford to pay for it (its probably less than 50% more expensive than Dark Legions) they will find Dark Legions one of the most entertaining games on this site. With all of that said, however, there is a problem for those of us who HAVE played Warcraft....

After checking out the credits, Mascot Entertainment is a very small company where all the programming and artwork were done by one person. That is a HUGE undertaking and you really have to respect that individual for what they were able to accomplish. However the results really show off the lack of artistic excellence that you get when there are dedicated artist(s) on a project. The models are simplistic and pointy, the animations are comical, and some of the textures look like they were painted in windows paint.

All of this would be completely liveable if the gameplay was original and compelling. But the bottom line is that there is really no reason for someone to cough up 20 bucks for Dark Legions when you could pay maybe 10 or 15 dollars more for Warcraft III. (Remember Warcraft III is basically the exact same game but with a development budget in the millions and the polish, care, and depth to prove it)

So I guess in summary this game rates very highly when compared to the other offerings on this site, but at the same time falls short in offering something new and different to be worth paying for. (which many of the games here DO provide without having as many technical features)

Don't be in a hurry! Enemy don't usually attack if you don't go near them. Build up slowly then attack. Extend your reach with towers with multiple archer upgrades on them. Keep a slave nearby to repair the most advanced ones. Always keep priests, but behind your troops (they die easily). Catapults can usually sneakily destroy buildings while staying out of notice range of troops (especially good lobbing boulders over hills).

After creation of army, first of all you should put simple fighters then archers then katapults, in ratio 10:10:5 (units)! Then it is possible quietly to be at war, otherwise, even at equal armies you will lose :)

Cast Spells smartly
Its annoying that demons are killed before they could cast spells.
There is a way to cast spells without hurting(or killing) your Demons.
1. Train 3 giants and 1 demon (research spells as well)
2. move them close to enemy base
3. move your giants into the base
4. while the enemy is busy attacking the giants, order your demon to cast a spell.
5. once the spell is casted order all your units to flee.
  • if you're afraid your giant will die, train priests to heal them while they're being attacked*

    Easy, right?
