galaxy defender is here

One of the best arcade shooters in this category! Cool graphics(including background),very nice sound, involving gameplay. Powerups, rockets, bonus score points and a bunch of aliens to destroy(ofcourse). Plus 9 mighty bosses to get rid of will keep you busy for hours. Overall for this game-5 stars!

Time is of the Essence

Great game. My Grandson (10) loves it. Would be much better if it had a pause /suspend button to enable a hold on the game like Ricochet.

Well Done Shooter

Star Defender 2 is an excellent Galaga style shooter.

Your task is simply to fend off wave after wave of enemies. You can't move from the bottom of the screen, so you have to dodge left/right in order to stay alive.

Enemy attack patterns are quite randomized, so you won't always know what to expect. Power-ups drop from enemies as you destroy them, such as weapon upgrades or shields.

When you take a hit, your weapon downgrades by one level. If you only have a level one weapon and you are hit, you die. There are plenty of upgrades and the weapons get quite powerful later on.

There are nine "missions", each consisting of 10-15 levels including a boss fight. Bosses are well done in this game, having separate destroyable parts.

Star Defender 2 can be quite challenging at some points, and quite easy at others, regardless of difficulty setting.

All in all it's a well thought out and executed game, and should be a staple in any space shooter fan's collection.

Quite Solid

With Star Defender in its 4th installment, it's no secret that this is a game that has been consistently doing well. I guess it would be a bit backwards to review it.. so let's.

Not many complaints for this game, except perhaps that the weapon power-ups are uni-linear and don't really power you up all that much. The look of the weapon may change, but the damage difference doesn't seem all that great -- I like to feel like I'm cleaning house.

There was some very subtle parallax scrolling on some of the boss levels, and that was a touch that I definitely appreciated. This may be more of along the lines of a Galaga/Galaxian type game, and the graphics just make it a winner.

Soundwise, the music is not epic, and for the frequency at which you use the rockets, they could have settled on a something a little less abrasive.

Awesome sequel and Amazing predecessor

When the first Star Defender was released, it became an instant hit because of its non-stop action, but shortly afterwards people got bored of it because it didn't have a wide range of weapons. The worst part of it was the fact that it was 2D, the ships and backgrounds had no graphical touch. They were still, and unanimated.

Star Defender 2 is definately an amazing predeseccor of its first game in the sequel, the game is longer, more enemies, better looking ship with more range of weapons, cool backgrounds and levels, awesome music and bosses, and best of all, it's 3D and and animation in the objects.

But now Star Defender III came out, and it won't be long before this is replaced.
