Where is the sixth star in rating?

Not too fresh (Original publisher, Microprose weasel out of business few years ago), but maybe this is the best boardgame adaptation of all time. I love original boardgame, and Risk II can renew this legendary game. The new Same-time mode is very unique and very funny. And the music! Tchaikovsky's classic is maybe the best background music, if you want to dominate whole world. If i want to say only one word from this game, then i say: PERFECT.

Risk 2 old vs new

Just got to say

This is risk and as such is a pretty great game, the AI functions reasonably well and its risk basically. Tried and testet and functions well.

Now they thought up something called same time action, which functions such that you choose everything you want to do, while the others do the same and everything happens at the same time. This is a pretty neat idea but in my view it doesn't work well at all. For this to work they had to change the way the dice work and instead of the 5 dice, they have just one and the rules aren't explained anywhere. Thus the rolls makes no sense at all and thats highly demotivating. Also i think the probabilities have changed since the originial way of doing it and its just useless basically.

That being said the original risk part functions perfectly and if you want to just play risk i can recommend this game.

Solving the saving problem.

Many players who bought the game online, couldn't save their games. Well, that's solved now.

Risk 2 was previously only available on a CD, when the developers created the downloadable version they were unable to make the 'Save' feature work without the CD. All you need to do is create a folder called GameSave in the folder where the game is installed (Example: C:/Program Files/Risk II/GameSave). This will enable the save feature.

It workes with me now.
I think the game is very attractive and amusing. When you played it once, you can't stop playing it. And with all the different rules and gameplays it's really better than the boardgame. Altough, the sounds could be better. But the graphics are quite good.

I would really recommend it!

Put an empty folder into your game folder called "GameSave".
  • The game will then put save game files into this folder when you push the "save" button at the beginning of your turn. The save button looks like it is working, but then doesn't actually save your game unless you put this folder in yourself. That's the folder that the CD version creates. Lo and behold, it works for the digital version too.

A few general tips when playing Classinc Risk games.

    1) It's recommended for any new player to start off against 2-3 opponents, and work your way up.

    2) At the end of your turn, if you made at least one successful attack, you will gain a risk card. Risk cards equals extra reinforements, so make one successful attack per turn.

    3) Aim for either Australia, Africa or South America. Do not try to control North America or Europe until you can defend them. Do not try to control Asia. Period.

    4) A good defence is a good offence. Concentrate on holding one continent before moving on to the next. The CPU players will eventually crush each others armies/defences. This is when you make your move. Suffice to say, by that time you will have an considerable advantage in troop number.

    5) A snowball's chance in hell have a tendency to appear in combat. If you're attacking to conquer, it's better to be overly causious than to loose the battle. Retreat if the odds start to look bad.

    6) Concentrate your continental defences depending on your surroundings (EXAMPLE: If you control Australia, do not advance to and fortify Siam, you're only giving the CPU a chance to attack from both India and China). This "rule of thumb" applies too every continent. The only exeption is Ukraine (EXAMPLE: If you happen to control Asia defending Ukraine and Middle East is MUCH easier than defending Ural, Afganistan and Middle East).

    7) When you're trying to counqer an additional continent, keep in mind that the CPU can also use risk cards. If the odds are turned to your disadvantage, remember that this new continent isn't worth the price of your current one(s).

Based on 5 ratings, average score is 4.2.

Here are some tips for winning in a Same TIme game:

    1) the sexret to win a Same Time game is to get as much reinforcements as you can, I have found out that you will get more reinforcement if your countries are connected and if you own a whole continent.

    2) If you change the continent value of Australia to 10, you will get reinforcements that equal to the continent value plus the number of connected countries (10 4=14).

3)it is easier to beat an enemy troop by attacking with 2 or more countries at the same time.

    4) don't play with extra territories if you are inexperienced.

    Some helpful strategies include...

    (1) Try not to attack when you have less than 4 armies. You will attack with 3 die when you have 4+ armies, but only 2 die when you have 3 armies and 1 die when you have 2 armies (you can't attack with only 1 army there)

    (2) Have more than 1 army in as many of your locations near conflict zones as you can afford. If your army is only 1 in a country, it will have just one die to defend with. With 2+, it will have two die to defend with. I find 3 is a good figure. Although this advantage can be wiped out with one good attack round, it increases your chances of defending successfully

    (3) If there are high-number armies in your opponent and your squares (say you have 10+ armies, they have 10+ armies), go on the attack. You are statistically better off at trying to win the overall battle.

    (4) Contrary to myth, getting countries in Asia is a good thing to do. Remember, you get ½ an army for each square. Having 8 countries in Asia and 6 countries in Europe is worth more armies (7) than having the Australasia continent which is only worth 5 armies (3 for the set, and 2 for the countries).

    (5) Make alliances with someone who has a lot of countries adjoining yours. You can then concentrate on getting out the other players. Easier to fight one battle than two!

    (6) Take control of at least one country every turn. This gives you the risk cards, which can give you extra armies.

    (7) Unless defence is critical, hold onto your cards until you have to spend it. The number of armies increase every time someone uses them.

    (8) If another player has a whole continent, and you are able to, hammer a hole in it by just taking the one country into it. They will likely attack back, but you've reduced the number of armies they have to do so. For example, if you hold Siam, and someone else has the Australia continent, take out the Phillippines (and defend with 3+ armies).

If you're playing offline, always keep in mind, that the AI is dumb... and it cheats (a lot). In Classic, it's difficult to attack it, in Same Time, it's difficult to defend against it. Go for the easy targets (1-troop contries) and in Same Time, try to attack always from at least 2 directions at the same time, the Mass Attacks are almost impossible to be repelled.

Try to hold one or two easyly defendable continents (South America, Australia), then move on to the others. North America can be a good target too, because with the basic territories, it can be attacked from 3 directions, and with the control of S America, you can have hold both with three defense positions.

And... oh, yes, use the savegame help above, and always save before a new round. The AI can do some very... interesting tricks in a single round.

This game is about tactics. When you start to attack, first look at your defense, because your opponent is very smart and will take advantage of weak defenses.

When your opponent own the whole continent, they will got more reignforcement bonus. You can attack them and capture at least one country in the continent, the opponent will lose the bonus for the continent (mind your defenses also)
Try not to attack others much when you don't have much
