A reason to match 3!

With a battery of "match-3" puzzles to be found, it took me awhile to actually look at this game let alone play it. I never could get into the mind-numbing match-3. They all seemed pointless and endless not to mention repetitive.

Puzzle Hero was not one of these. To my surprise - there was a REASON for matching 3. The story is simple: Save your brother Tristan, who has been kidnapped (not sure why) from sorcerer Zalock’s spell and his Army of Darkness. You would read a piece of the story, which is shown on a very nice map (imo) and then embark on your quest. Each quest comprises of combating a series of monsters and finishing up with a boss Mob. Then another piece of the story is revealed. In between these fights you have the option of visiting a store where you can buy armor and weapons. There is, as well, a (not needed) salon for changing hairstyle and skin tone.

The combat is where the game shines when the author made use of the classical Match-3. Ideally, during combat you, want to match 3 swords as that is the only way damage to your foe (but having the right weapon and matching special items can do some devastating damage as well). There are other items: potions, weraths, bull’s shields and other specials. All the while the mobs are doing the same thing to you.

The graphics are phenomenal and very fluid. A couple things didn’t set well with me, although purely aesthetic, you can only be a female hero. As far as the mobs, you fight the same dozen or so mobs over and over, sometimes they are dressed up differently, but in the end they are the same. The A.I. in the game wasn't too bad. Sometimes was a little frustrating because I'm not that good at looking ahead for those killer 4 match-up-free-turn moves. Maybe he's cheating.

I thought this game was wonderful. Never once did I see the "match-3" theme as a boring puzzle, but more so as a way to fight off the mobs. So if you despise all the match-3 games out there - try this one. You won't be di

This one is more than a puzzle game.

Yet, it is more than adventure game. It just makes me want to write a review. The picture in the title really does not say much about it. I almost did not want to try this game. I am so glad I did try it.

It is no ordinary adventure game, where you depend on your experience and level. In this one, no matter how tough the monster is, you have equal chances of winning or losing, which also happens.

But it is mostly about how well you pay attention to the puzzle pieces: where they are located; how to make a combo; etc… Oh, yeah: after you match your pieces, watch out for the monster. There might be something that you missed and the monster would not miss it. I am glad when it happens vice versa.

My demo time is about to run out. I don’t know what to do…

This game is so worth buying it. I think I will.

If you only have 1 move to make and you can see that the next CPU move will be an attack, then try making a move that can't be done (illegal move), so you lose your turn. That way the CPU will be the one to do the 1 real move, so you can do the next one that will be the attack.

How to play twice (as long as you have mana). I noticed that when you cast a spell, you can quickly do another move before the spell's "animation" is finished. Also, if you time this move right, you can do yet another move. It works most of the times and you can repeat it as long as you have some mana left. Try to make "cheap" spells, so you can do the trick more times.
