One of the best in this genre
I'm not a huge fan of this type of puzzle game but I found this one to be fun and somewhat addictive. It's all in the presentation, and the authors have found a new way to give this genre a total makeover. |

Been playing for years.
When I get burned out on the first person shooters that I spend a ton of money on I always go back to Ocean Express.
It is a good game to play while listening to music or talk radio in the background.
I am still tring to catch up to the all-time high score (2 million plus points) often. If you like Tetris type games, with a twist in that you can increase your success with upgrades, then this is the game for you. |

Ok but I expected something different
While the presentation, graphics and sound are all to a good standard, I was a bit disappointed to find it was just a souped up version of Puzzle Express. Not that there's anything wrong with the gameplay - a compelling cross between tetris and a... well.. jigsaw puzzle I guess - but being a game released nearly 2 years afterwards, I'd have expected more changes in the gameplay.
If you haven't played Puzzle Express then give this a go - it looks and sounds better. If you've played Puzzle Express then there's probably not enough new material here for you. |

Fntastic game
If you have played "Puzzle Express" then it's all the more reason to want to play another type of game as this one. I enjoyed the original "Tetris" style and format and for those who truly love these type of games, really good variations as those listed above are well and good. I love the water texture the boats are in and the ability to build your own puzzles is super. I never grow bored with this one. Well done. |

SHAPES UP TO BE ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
Casual? How about Historical. Ever since Alexey dropped the bomb that was Tetris, we've grown more and more tired of seeing these shapes appear in games. "Welcome Back", is all I have to say.
Ocean Express is a well thought out symphony of good gaming, and I would argue that it's one of the most under-rated games here. Simply put: the game is well balanced and reasonable. It creates objectives that are worth fulfilling, and upgrades that enhance gameplay. While Puzzle City failed and Shopmania was too tentative, Ocean Express offers a relaxed package of near limitless replay value.
The objective, as you probably have gathered, is to fill the shipment containers at the docks. Shapes will come along on the treadmill, some of them normal, others, special shaped Products from various regions. You will be also financially penalized for any single-unit holes that you leave open, rewarded for shipping special pieces of cargo, and get a BIG bonus if the container is completely filled.
Unlike a lot of these games, nobody is twisting your arm to use the currently available shapes, as you can amorally throw them overboard with a financial penalty in hopes that a more fitting piece will arrive. This penalty is moot compared to the bonus you get for properly filling your container.
The simple containers are designed by users, which adds value to the whole thing, as you can also submit your own puzzles and enable the automatic downloading of more. So you see, this game perpetually assures its survival and replay value by leaving the level design to the users. There is also a DETAILED on-line high-score table. You can also turn all these downloadable bells and whistles off using the options, and be left with a SOLID game.
Casual gaming is often about reworking an old idea, or creating games out of people's dayjobs. Ocean Express does both, and does it with elegance and gaming excellence. |
