OASIS

Oasis is a puzzle game, and in a way it reminds me of minesweeper combined with a lightweight version of Civilization. You're exploring an area, trying to find cities and connect them while discovering the secret obelisk in the oasis. Every move counts, but every click of a tile reveals something good. There are a lot of deep strategies, but it's easy to learn (the teaching mode is very well done) and they take the concept to a lot of creative ways. I highly recommend this game.

Oasis - Strategy based empire building and defense game

When opening your demo version of Oasis the time bar is red rather than blue and it looks like a big warning rather than a beginning. Don't worry you have 60 delightful minutes. Oasis opens beautifully with exquisite
artwork design. As a strategy game, Oasis has a higher appeal than many of the larger "empire strategy" games because you don't need to commit 6 months to the game before you're up to the challenge. The tutorial walks you through the game. You can actually spend the entire hour in the tutorial an never get to the game itself. Keep in mind that there are some empire conqueror games that it takes an hour just to learn how to control the commander. The focus is on getting to understand the concepts needed to prove yourself as able to lead a country and set up basic defense. It seems that the transition from the demo to the actual game would be smooth. Many strategy - empire games are built around huge libraries of historical records and can be quite intimidating.

Oasis, on the other hand seems welcoming to play. Remember, it's an arcade game. It won't hog space on your system, or cause you to freeze up. You load and go. If you want a high end strategy game where you see the towns folk slicing and dicing up close then: defragment your system and go find one, if your system can handle it without needing to buy hardware upgrades. But, if you want a family logic strategy interactive game that you load and go that is not offensive then Oasis is a great choice.

Addicting...

I first downloaded this game when I saw that it was very popular at reflexive.com. Then I thought- well I'll try it, I like puzzle games anyway. I started it in tutorial mode and played a few levels. At first it seemed a bit boring, but after about 5 levels I felt that I just couldn't stop playing. :)
The graphics, as I saw later, aren't very good and the sound becomes boring at a few places, but compared to the gameplay it's nothing.
In conclusion, I really liked this game, I think I'm going to buy it. :)
