Quick Action RTS Fun!

Summary - Bringing together a perfect blend of casual games' quickness and simplicity with the challenges of classic RTS (Real Time Strategy) games, KingMania delivers in a very fun way!

Pros - Humor!, simple gameplay, minimal interface (with maximum effeciveness) quick learning curve, excellent animation, upgrades specific to building type, and replayability.

Cons - No score, no timer, some minor translation issues. The difficulty scale increases amazingly fast, and its too bad the maps aren't larger or that there are not more than two armies on the map at any one time.

Comments/Observations - KingMania ambitiously scales down the classic RTS games to what they are really all about - conquering your enemy before he conquers you! And it does so excellently! The simple interface and clear objective allows the player to focus on accomplishing the task at hand...conquest! At the same time, the feature of upgrades provides the strategy for balance in use of resources. Combine that with deciding how many villagers and knights to allocate to offense and how many to defense, and you've got enough to have some very fun, challenging, and compelling gameplay!

A score and/or timer feature would have provided the opportunity for high scores, and what dedicated gamer doesn't want to better their accomplishments once they get the hang of a game? Without these, there's no reason to return to an earlier level, so its basically a trot through level after level...not that that's a bad thing in this case at all!

Settlers Junior

This is basically an upgraded, flashier, SIMPLER version of an old game called Settlers. Luckily, the resources here auto-accumulate, and the buildings are already preset too, so you don't have to worry about maintaining supply lines.
That does NOT mean it's EASIER, though, as this is a game about numbers, plain and simple, whoever has MORE troops wins, and the computer is gathering ITS strength just as you gather yours.
You can conquer villages for food, and mines for gold, build fences (Invisible) around them to keep the guards you send to them safer, but be careful, some later upgrades can raise production of one side, but lower the other, such as villages, you can produce more food OR more villagers, but after the first upgrade of each, the next upgrade downgrades the other production!
Graphics are TRULY amazing, and the game is completely intuitive, select and build with left-click, attack or reinforce with right-click, and huge shockwaves of light announce every upgrade of you or your enemy. BEAUTIFUL!
The troops skip to their objective and fight in a happily cartoonish, "Asterix and Obelix" way, and casualties are shown as little angel-wings rising from the scene of combat.
This game is completely kid-safe, but good for anyone who enjoys a good RTS...Last RTS game this good was Master of Defense! The graphics are as good as SACRIFICE! (Commercial game, first-person RTS.)
Note: This game does NOT have any building of new structures, you just reinforce and upgrade existing structures, more like a real-time RISK, rather than WarCraft. If you want WarCraft-style play, building a base, and selecting what soldiers to build, try Deep Quest instead. Here, ALL troops are produced automatically, over time, and all structures are there. You just have to conquer each one.
I LOVE THIS GAME!

Very fun, well balanced game

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. The game itself was superb, with well balanced gameplay that proved to be quite a challenge! I couldn't run the game with my graphics settings anywhere above low, which is a pity, but even on low the graphics were well made, and the game was still fun to play :)
The sounds were rather annoying in some cases, so I ended up just turning them off.
I really liked the idea of letting the user choose a hard, but short path, or an easier, but longer path; very ingenious, and it definitely added to the replay value of the game.
Looking forward to a sequel! :)

When you get enough food and money for an upgrade, prioritize upgrading the increase in number of knights, then the magic upgrades. The dragon upgrade is highly effective.

When you get to the hard and super hard levels, concentrate on capturing one village and one mine first. Then send approximately 6-8 knights to both these locations to prevent them from being recaptured by the enemy, particularly when you've just captured these locations. Wait awhile till the number of villagers increases (note: the maximum number of villagers in each village is 50) till there are at least 30-40 of them. Then concentrate on capturing the other villages and mines. This prevents the enemy from purchasing any upgrades, so they'll start attacking you to try to recapture these locations. This is when the large number of villagers and knights comes in handy. Wait awhile again till you get a fair number of villagers and knights then launch a last assault on the enemy's stronghold. Send the dragon in at the same time you send your villagers and knights in.

Towers are not that handy, and scout towers are nothing short of useless. Towers only come in handy at certain locations when there are several towers and no villages or mines (you'll see what i mean when you get to these locations). then concentrate on capturing these towers and fortifying it with soldiers. Don't attack your enemy just yet till you have about 3-4 towers under your control. Then use them to attack the enemy's castle simultaneously, before sending your knights in. Repeat this process till you have all of your enemy's castles.

  • The Monster upgrade from villages can be helpful to keep the enemies defenses at villages low, while not doing attack runs. It is also useful as a preparation for an attack on a mine/tower (where the defenses do not replenish by themselves).
  • Later in the game, don't use the Fireball against an upgraded castle (because of it's magic protection upgrade).
  • Buy the magic protection upgrade at your castle, if the enemy owns magic towers - after that upgrade, fireballs become almost useless against it.
Based on 1 rating, average score is 1.0.
