I'm obviously not cut out for hotel management

Dull, dull, dull.

I really can't explain how disappointed I am in this game. Such a promising premise - you'd have thought that hotel management would be a great idea for a click-management or diner-style game. But no.

Part of the problem is the poor English translation. Part of it is the cheesy music. But most of it is just the gameplay.

"Customers like to watch TV. When they want it, switch it on!" - I just felt like yelling "Push the button yourself, lazy customer!" Ditto taking a phone to their room, or a coffee. What hotel built in the last 50 years doesn't have drinks-making facilities, or a phone in every room?

Another huge flaw was the chambermaid actions. Every time a customer wants their room cleaned - which seems to happen disturbingly often - you have to call the maid to do it. Unfortunately the maid is also responsible for dry cleaning, watering plants, and goodness knows what else (I gave up before getting that far) so the customers are getting angry because she's still watering plants and has 3 rooms to vacuum before she can pick up Mr Messy's cleaning...

This could have been so much better. What a shame.

Fawlty Towers.... ?

First seeing this I expected another task management game like Diner Dash and thats just what you get. Another clone of the genre but set in a hotel this time. While theres comparrison to similar games, you'll find a few differences that make it worth a look.

Overall the impression is of a great game, especially if your bored with the food service types. The text for the story and discriptions has defiantely been translated badly from another language, "I earn my first money", being an example of what to expect. Appart from that its a well polished and put together game.

Graphically it looks great and theres nothing to complain about, but nothing to praise either.

Soundwise it could be improved. The music is the slightly cheesy 'musak' but it doesn't irritate you. Sound effects such as the coffe machine workng, the vacum hoovering etc would have been nice editions.

Gameplay is pretty much what to expect from games of this type. Click this, then that to this etc. Its nearly impossible to chain actions as the guests always want something different to another, but it's possible to click the paper once, then all the gusts who want it. Or if the cleaner is cleaning rooms and more need doing, you can click the additional rooms instead of having to click the icon for it then the room again. Your not told this at any point though. Other then that its typical earn money, buy upgrades and new features, wait for popularity to grow etc and move on. Though I did find myself wondering when moving to a new hotel where the $4000 I'd made in the previous hotel extra suddenly went. Also you can find yourself a little overwhelmed at times as alot does tend to happen all at once, but you'll be able to keep up if your used to games like this.

Overall it needs some work. The gramatical errors need fixing, sound needs a little improvement and gameplay needs a touch of balencing. If you want a change from Diner Dash take a look. Its defiantely worth playing the trial.

pretty good game

i wont say that this game was super or anything but it was pretty good. The 2 things i liked about this game is that
1. it is not so easy neither so tough.
2. even though it is like Diner Dash it is not a copied idea.
something different, something better.

Tips & Tricks for 'Jane's Hotel':
Login to edit this tip
1. Right click the icon for the game.
2. Choose properties.
3. Click on the 'Find Target...' button.
4. This will make you go to the game folder. In here, find a file called 'AI.ini'.
5. Double click it to open the file.
6. You will find a list of customers
e.g. [Audioboy]
7. And underneath it there are values for all the sevices in the hotel starting from magazine, phone, coffee, etc.
8. Beside it are numbers in this format:

5|5|15|1|2|35|2

If you can see, the numbers are separated by columns. The value for the second column determines the value of the service. So, if you change the above to:

5|50|15|1|2|35|2

Then for every time the service is used, you will get 50 instead of 5.
