Terrific!!!!!!!!!!

Like anyasouthard, I, too, am a veteran of Unreal. This game comes very close to it (Devastation Zone is third-person POV only, though). I purchased the full version as a birthday present to myself. I love that you can use your weapon to blast your way through dirt walls. Using the radar on the bottom left of the screen, you can see if your enemies are on the other side of the wall, blast a short cut through, and catch them by surprise! This game is much better than any side scrolling, blast the descending space ships game, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Plenty of action, and never, ever boring. I see that the copy-write date on the game is 2006. I'm hoping that there will be a sequel soon (even though I have yet to complete the game).

OMG!! what a game

I have played a lot of the games on reflexive and this one just got me hooked from the start.
I know its not the norm for a woman to play such a game as this, but I have been playing unreal for some years now, and I have to say it, for a 1 player game, this has got to be one of the best so far.
I have downloaded a few of the other shooter demos, but none have gripped me as much as this one. I just can't find myself leaving it alone, I think 'just one more mission before bed'. and before I know it, I have done 3 or 4 and its 5am in the morning or the demo has ended (I got to get the full, I just gotta!!!!!).

All I can say is, when is DZT2 coming out???!!!!!!

These guys understand the word "action"

Ok, first thing you should do is buy this game. Then read the following review just so you can ponder my telepathic abilities. Ready? Here goes...

My crystal ball is telling me that you love the ludicrous action. You can't get enough of it. Somehow this game came to you and satisfied all of your desires of carnage and destruction. It's getting fuzzy...wait..wait...there it is. You are wishing there was a sequel already. Yes, you want more...MORE!

Ok, enough with the sillyness.

Seriously, this is by far the best 20 bucks I have ever spent. HANDS DOWN!

This game is tons of fun from the very beginning.

Pros:

VERY low learning curve, easy to just jump in and play

Great action that keeps you moving

Destructible terrain (rather inovative)

Visuals, sound effects, and even music are top notch

Amazing polish for any game

Great value - the game can take ~15 hours to beat (Somewhere around 50 levels...thats HUGE!)

Landing sequence a very nice touch and change of pace

Author had the wisdom to bypass the landing sequence once it got old

Plenty of powerups so you didn't get bogged down in trying to survive

Clever and fun upgrades

Super low system requirements. (This game never got bogged down)

Cons: (are there any?)

Only 4 weapons of which only the last two are really needed (or of actual value)

Eventually you run out of upgrades before the game is finished

Easy and Normal are almost impossible to lose at

Would have liked to see more distinctive elements to all weapons so you are more inclined to use all 4 for different circumstances

All in all, these are pretty minor complaints and should NOT detract from an amazing game. I really can't recommend this game enough if you like action games.

And when in the heck is DZT2 coming out!?!?!?

(It should also be noted that I pretty much never give games 5 stars for everything! I made an exception for this one)

Tips & Tricks for 'Devastation Zone Troopers':

One of the best upgrades to do first is the "power fist" - it will make your right-click attack give a very wide powerful blast. The right-click attack has unlimited ammo with a small firing delay, which makes it perfect for when you run out of energy on a gun or suprise a bunch of enemies. Upgraded it can take out swarms of enemies and can kill turrets in a single hit.

You can use your photon cannon to blast through the steel walls, no need to acquire an access card. Also with the photon canon you can make your own custom short-cuts through the terrain, if you are in a hurry.
