Not a bad chess game, but...

This game is definitely one of the best chess programs I have seen to date, but does suffer some problems. For one, no multiplayer! I shall discuss the rest later in this review.

The major reason I picked up the demo was to see how it compared to Chessmaster 10th Edition (which I shall call CMX from here on), which I had bought a while back. So, here is my conclusion:

First off, it has very useful and insightful tutorials on the basics on chess play. However, I was quite disappointed to see that many of CMX's brilliant tutorials had been excluded, although the tutorials provided were excellent. One strange fact of this game was the requirement of downloading an extra file for some of the tutorials. I think this was a bad move, although it does cut down on size for those who are not interested in the tutorials.

Another highly useful and enjoyable feature was the "Fun" area in which you can try your hand at solving some chess-related problems (e.g. find the fork, find the pin, mate in one, etc.)Unfortunately, no sign of any where to play the "Kids Version" of chess. This is practically the only version I play in CMX, as there was no time limit, so it is sorely missed.

The actual "Play" mode was also very good: you can choose whether you want to play a Ranked Game (the outcome of which affects your player "score"), or just go head to head against one of the very many included personalities. If you feel that you are really good, or just feel lucky, you can also battle computerized versions of the styles of play of many famous players, such as Karpov, and even Chessmaster himself. The only major flaw here is the inability to have unlimited time. When playing, you HAVE to have a chess clock.

On the whole, an excellent, if somewhat flawed chess program. Definitely worth the purchase solely for the tutorials if you are new to chess, or if you just need some practice. Think of it as Chessmaster: 10th Edition: 'Lite' Version

Insightful chess lessons

Chess is one of the oldest sports which exists until our day. Chess Master Challenge can really help anyone who is interested in learning the insights of this game. This program has great information and tips that, I guarantee, will really help you in understanding the game better.

When you think that you are ready for a challenge, go ahead and test youself! You can play against a very easy opponent or a VERY strong one. But my advice; even if you know the rules of the game, is to go through all the lessons, it may take few hours but it's worth it.
