And credit where credit's due...

This is Trevor Chan's Capitalism. It is well-known as the most accessible and accurate simulation of the free market - everything from farming, manufacturing, retail of all sorts is covered. I bought the box of this when it first came out in 2002, and I still install it on every computer I spend any amount of time on. Enligh simply took the game and repackaged it to be more accessible.

It's deceptively simple and as some say, does "look" like simcity. It is by no means anything like sim city. Instead of building and worrying about infrastructure and such, your mission is much simpler and yet infinitely more complex. Acquire, and get big. Push the competition into bankruptcy or buy them out in the stock market. You can own the entire chain and become the "President's Choice" of the world - build your headquarters and spend money on R&D, build a chain of farms to provide for your manufacturing sector, sell your own products for a lower price than your competitors and make them exclusive, open up a line of department stores and specialty stores to push your own product.

There's also real estate involved - you can buy and sell condos and rental properties. You can mine for raw materials. You can manufacture aluminum so other businesses can buy them for their cola products.

This is a REAL game, and not a CASUAL game. Expect to lose hours immersing yourself in the deepest business simulation ever created.

Deeper than a submarine reading Kafka

Whereas most "tycoon" type games either focus on building a RTS style set of buildings, or establishing some sort of trade route like in Railroad Tycon or Tradewinds, you'll find none of that here.

You either start one of the preset scenarios, or a sandbox game where you make a quick check to see what resources are available, build a factory or two, maybe a farm, and a store tailored to whatever you plan on making, and that's it as far as building goes for quite some (ingame)time. From there on the game begins. Juggling prices of resources and finished products, establishing your brand(s) trough PR, securing your stock majority while making attempt to corner your competitors, secretly researching that little tech boost that will set your laptops, mouthwash, leather wallet or whatever your empire is taking over the world with, ahead of their competitors both international and local. It is, as fun as it sounds. That means if you like Diner Dash, coffee break games, and The Sun on the toilet, you probably wont like this game. On the other hand, if you played Diner Dash and thought "what if I focused my advertising on a more effective media platform, or maybe changed the bean supplier to in-house", and read the ecconomist or likewise pretencious brainfodder on toilet, your game is finally here (well strictly speaking it's been around for years, but finally released on a more mainstream publisher).
There are quirks in the game. The music is the sort of thing I imagine they play as muzak in brainwashing cults waiting rooms. The animations were built for a lower spec system than your average PC today, meaning things on the map like ferris wheels and whatnot, might move slightly faster than any speed Einstein might have thought up. And just the share work of merging a competitor into your company might make you adopt a more moderate strategy on the stock market.
But if you want a game with substance and dont mind a few lost hours of your life (or weeks) then voila.

I really loved this game when i bought it over a year ago. I thought i will give it a spin since i like this type of game. Wow i was surprized. It was a great game. Highly addictive. Never the same game twice. Once you get a hang of it it's lots of fun. I recommend buying it. Good entertainment for the price you pay.

If you don't start with enough money, build Retailers like General Stores and Supermarkets and invest a little on advertising.
When you get enough money, build a factory and look at the Manufacturing Guide to see what you can produce with the Seaport products, if you can't produce anything yet, build a farm and start producing what you need.
It's the production chain rolling, baby ;D
