High quality breakout game

I downloaded the demo version of this game recently and was pleasantly surprised.
The game is a pretty standard breakout game but it's very well done. A problem I have with many games in this genre is that they are often too easy.. not this one.
You can select three difficulty levels and the hardest one is more than hard enough.

A new feature in this game is the "eye" powerup.. these are eyes floating on the level dropping bonuses of various kinds.. there is also an evil black eye which is incredibly annoying (but in a good way).

The game has quite a few levels and overall the level design is good with some surprises here and there.
They are divided into "level packs" which makes the game harder - if you lose all your lives in a level pack, you have to start over from the beginning of the pack. I think this is a good idea as games often become too easy if you're allowed to start on the very same level you died on.

You are encouraged to finish the game on all difficulty levels as every level pack you you finish gives you part of a picture.. finish all levels packs and you get the complete picture. There are seperate pictures for all three difficulty levels meaning that if you want to unlock all three, you have to finish the game on every difficulty level. A nice touch I think.

I really like the graphics in this game. They're not very high resolution but they're well drawn and give the game a sort of "retro" feel.
The sound on the other hand is not really that good. The game could benefit from more music as the only time music is played is near the end of the levels where the ball speeds up. I decided to turn off the music and play some MP3s in the background instead.
The sound effects are good enough but nothing special.

Overall this is a solid breakout title with a decent challenge.. should last you a while if you want to finish it on all difficulty levels.

Bricks of......

I agree with what Carsberg said, that is, "the Bricks of Series of brick busters is getting much too repetitive". The first one I bought was Bricks of Atlantis, which I thought was well made and good looking, but not very challenging, still I throughly enjoyed it. The rest of the series though are much the same....all well made and good looking, but the game play become's much 'too' repetitive, with the same power ups and the same looking brick styles apart fron the different themes. The games would be much improved if you took a leaf out of games such as Ricochet: Lost Worlds, Ricochet: Recharged, Break Quest and Incrediball:The Seven Sapphires. That is have the ability to either pick and mix your powerups (Break Quest). Change the powerups or add new ones in later releases (Ricochet) or have some levels within levels (Incrediball:The Seven Sapphires), oh yeah and a level editor would be nice to. You could then set up a fan based site where all the fan made level's could be uploaded and shared with the community, and you could even pick the best of them and release them as an expansion pack, just like they did with Ricochet Lost Worlds: Revisited. There's a lot of potential with your games. They have a great look as I've already said, but you really need to spice them up, otherwise your gonna be another Hyperballoid. Which was once a brilliant release when it was released by Alawar, but has now turned into something of a behemoth, costing over $170 originally if you wanted to complete all the level sets they have released. (edit 19th nov 2007: you can get Hyperballoid Golden Pack here at Reflexive now, that contains the lot plus more for $20). Not one of them has any new power ups, and the same awful music drones on (though you can 'buy' another music pack with 5 new sounds, lol). It's a beautifully rendered game though, one of the best in fact.

I didn't mind BoE2, but it did bore me after a while. Please add some new power ups and a levels editor.

Have you seen all 7 of the mystical eye power-ups? They all have different characteristics and can help or hurt you! Beware of the black poison eye as its tears will shrink your bat and ultimately cause you to lose a life. So, destroy it quickly by hitting it twice with the ball or shooting it with your cannons!

Once you destroyed the black poison eye, it would shed its last drop of poison tear - avoid it!
