Big City Adventure: San Francisco

I’ve always wanted to go to San Francisco on vacation, but it hasn’t worked out. So Big City Adventure: San Francisco is as close as I can to visit this city full of rich history and fascinating sites. This hidden object game shares all kinds of facts about the city and 20 of its spots. The game contains 60 levels, so you visit the same spot a few times and pick up a new fact each time you visit. You discover your new destination by completing a mini-game and then do the hunt for hidden objects at the destination. This one nicely ties the hidden object scene and mini-games with the game’s San Francisco theme. Be warned… it starts easy, but it will get harder! Avoid any temptation to feel cocky early on like I did. The ultimate feature in this one that should be a standard in all hidden object games: Letting you know when you click something and it turns out to be nothing. Many of the games don’t always “hear” your click and you don’t want to click again for fear you’ll lose points. Not a problem with Big City Adventure SF. The game shows an icon when you click an object that doesn’t appear on the list of things you need to find. I’m currently playing another hidden object game and too many times something I clicked earlier turn out to be one of the objects on the list.

While the interface and graphics turned out well, I didn’t like the how the characters looked. I think it was their pose or something that didn’t win me over. When you start the game, you pick one of the characters. That character’s face appears throughout the game.

It’s no surprise the advertising for the game says it’s the first of the Big City Adventure series. I assume future versions will take place in large cities around the U.S. and perhaps, the world. Wanna bet New York, L.A., London and Paris are on the list? I look forward to the future releases.

Not quite as Golden as it might have been, & I nearly showed it the Gate.

Welcome to another hidden object/seek and find game.

I've tried most (if not all) of these type of games on Reflexive, and I hope my experience can assist you when deciding on this game.

BCA:SF is not a bad game, and there are some good features in it that the other reviewers have already mentioned, such as the little 'x' that appears when you've made an incorrect click.

The levels themselves are reasonable, though as foxspirit says, there are some variations in quality.

The main reason I am writing though is to comment on something that I found to be extremely annoying, but not yet commented on.

At the end of each level, there is a 'pinball machine' style coundown of the time remaining which is added to your score as a bonus, as is the number of unused bonus coins you've picked up, and then a dialog box pops up that does much the same thing, and there are also little footprints that track across the across the map as you visit the next location, and little location icons moving to the border once you complete a level, (and so on... I think you get the idea).

There seems to be no way of skipping these little animations to move on with the game, and honestly that sort of thing drives me crazy. I'm happy for programmers to add a little 'glitz' in their games, and I'm sure younger players probably like it. But if they are going to add those sort of animations then I'd like them to *please* let us skip them with a click so we can move on with the game (or better yet, lt us disable them in options). I'm sure each of them runs only a few seconds, but subjectively it seems longer when you're keyed up and ready for the next level.

If you're a fan of this tpe of game and are looking for a new one, then BCA:SF is worth the download.

But if you hate having your game time consumed by unnecessary animations, then perhaps try it out before you buy.

Bonus Coins

Make sure to look for the hidden bonus coins. They can help you to find difficult objects and can give you some more time or even some bonus points.

Save your hint and fast forward coins for when you really need them (the objects are harder to find as the rounds progress). If you don't use them immediately, they are saved for use in future rounds. You can use the time bonus coins just
before you finish to get a higher time bonus, even if you aren't running short of time.
