Age of Castles

In a distant realm of sword and sorcery, a great evil had swept across the land. Demons from the underworld and their evil minions poured across the kingdoms of man, until the great cities lay in ruin, and there were naught but a handful of cowering souls remaining. Choose your king, as you alone must travel to the end of the world, build a mighty castle, slay the undead hordes, and convert the people of the land to loyal subjects of your domain... in the Age of Castles!

If you are looking for a strategy game, this is a good one...

I read that another reveiwer didn't like this game and had to throw in my own two cents. It's a good strategy game that does get a bit complex. If you are looking for a fast shooter, or an easy to play puzzle game, look elsewhere.

However, if you like figuring out how to manage resources and slowly take things over, you'll probably like it.

Age of Castles: Waste of Computer Space

Naturally, I'd just say something like, "Go buy Coffee Tycoon instead" since the gameplay is nigh identical but I think I'll be a little nicer and throw out a little more than my two cents.

Over the hour that I played this game, I found that the graphics have too many inconsistencies for my tastes. The opponents are poorly drawn and have poor shading if any at all. The "Hit" "Miss" and "Victory" text graphics are a bit overdone, as well. Still, the backdrops are nice and I didnt' get to play long enough to see the castle upgrade but after checking out the screenshots, I found that it's supposed to.

The sound is fair. During the battles, I can hear just about nothing of interest and I can only click through till I beat the opponent senseless with a massive army. Normally, I view a lack of sound as taking away a distraction for a strategy game but this game doesn't require too much thought to play anyway and better audio would actually add to the playability of the game.

The gameplay, as I stated above, is almost identical to the game "Coffee Tycoon". It is no contribution to the genre and should have more work done on it before it would be a tribute to the "strategy game" family.

A final note I'd like to leave is that if you really like castle building games with shallow battles and a tycoon type layout, then go ahead and play it. I -highly- recommend playing the trial version before you buy.

Spend Those Crystals:
Your purple crystals are the key to victory, because they allow you to buy items in Ye Olde Magik Shoppe that will boost your daily gain of people, gold, and castle.

Find the right balance:

Don't assign a lot of soldiers in the first few levels, they are not necessary to acheive victory. When you have beaten each level, make sure to leave or you will get overrun quickly!

To Beat this game in under 1.5 hours

1. Use Prince
2. Set Your Population to about 45% Cleric 55% Merchants (this changes to 50/50 to 55/45 after items)
3. Run from every battle

note: do NOT put population into army or castle, doing so will only slow you down.

If anyone got a faster strategy please do post it here.

Put peasants roughly 50-50 on merchants and clerics, you can pretty safely forget about soldiers and builders. Click on next day about 10,000 times and you have won.

The game deals too little damage when you lose a battle, so even in the final levels you can overcome the damage caused to you simply by recruiting more troops as much as you possibly can. Almost all magic items are worthless, but they don't hurt either and in any case you have nothing worthwhile to spend the points on anyway.
